G1 Smokescreen was a liar, a cheater, and a gambler. He was the Autobot's "bad boy." Prime Smokescreen is more of a Cheetor. The young and eager kid appeal character.

At least he's not yellow.
Which reminds me, why does the yellow menace of Prime exist at all? He fails as a kid appeal character and he's...just a mute yellow sportscar.
Old fasioned games!
And new fashioned friends!
Come on everybody this is Ta-ble Flip!

Bumblebee is "popular" because of the movies. Kids love Bumblebee. His purpose in Prime is to boost sales, otherwise he's as much of an important character as Skyquake was.

Plus, he's sort of become a mascot or pet to Orci and Kurtzman. If he were real, they'd adopt him and make him do tricks for energon treats.

Hmm... I didn't know Smokescreen was such a scoundrel. And yeah, I think Cheetor is also similar to the Hot Rod character.
