Why are Dinobots so popular?

OK so I'm seeing alot of talk sugesting that people are fans of the Comic Dinobots (who addmittedly I knew nothing about before reading this) not the cartoon versions.
This still begs the question of why the Dinobots are so much more popular than other subgroups like the Stunticons or the Insecticons (if you wanna go the non-combiner team rout).
Personally I've allways had a fasination with hero look alikes. Characters like Tyrant (Statesman), Bizzaro (Superman), Nega Duck (Darkwing Duck), Sinestro (Green Lanturn), and Motormaster (Optimus Prime). Granted the Stunticons only look like the Autobots in vehicle mode while haveing completly different robot modes but they still count. No look alike is ever an exact copy.

Dinobots gets more early screen time than the other sub-groups. So their characterization sticks more to our memories. Our earliest exposures to sub-groups. They became a standard, or a trailblazer that we compare and expect other sub-groups to live up to.

Yes, I see your point, but that would be with bad guys that look like good guys. The Dinobots are good guys, but are anti-heros (especially Comic Grimlock), which is another reason I think I enjoy them. Sure, they act dumb, but they are some of the very few hardcore Autobots.
Also, they turn into Dinosaurs and, as someone else stated already, a lot of boys have a fascination with dinosaurs starting when they are young (I know I did and I had the Dinobots as a part of it as it was going on).

Hell, my son does. Just today he was all excited about a glow-in-the-dark dinosaur shirt he got. & I might add one of his favorite TFs is classic Grimlock....though being 3 he can't seem to figure out how to keep his tail on.Predaprince wrote:Saber Prime wrote:OK so I'm seeing alot of talk sugesting that people are fans of the Comic Dinobots (who addmittedly I knew nothing about before reading this) not the cartoon versions.

Heh, If I glued all the pieces he had problems with on that toy...it'd lose all ability to move. Nah, right now I'm just gonna try to keep up with the pieces untill his motor functions catch up & he can actually transform these guys himself.Auto Bot wrote:Glue them!

But if I had to choose between cartoon or comic Dinobots, I have to say the cartoon even though I never read the Marvel comic. The reason is, I like my Dinobots to be stupid just because I'm a cartoon fan

Same here, hence why I love Guiltor so much

Oh, and as for the Dinobots, for me it's simple: I loved Dinosaurs when I was a kid(still do to a certain degree), and I liked robots. Put the two together, and it's just plain awsome. The comic versions, of which I haven't read all that much of, are just a nice bonus. And they were also awsomely powerful too.

Same here, hence why I love Guiltor so much. I think of him as a way cooler version of Nemesis Prime before Nemesis Prime was ever thought up(and he isn't just a lame black repaint). Motormaster predates old Guiltor of course, but Guiltor looks way better in my opinion, and is more of an "evil Prime". I also love Protocide(original protoype for Captain America, had a small arc in Captain America Vol. 3).

Personally I think RID Scourge is the best evil Prime but I like Guiltor allso even though I've never read the comics and never even knew he exsisted till I saw your sig.
Anyway I don't remember ever haveing much intrest in Dinosaurs. I remember learning about them in school and watching a few cartoons and other shows that had dinosaurs in them (sadly one of thoughs shows was Power Rangers

Oh man, Land Before Time. It's been years since I watched that movie, but my sister says I used to rent it like every other week when I was little. Eventually I got a copy of my own, from McDonald's I think. There's like seven Land Before Time movies now, I think I saw up to number three, then outgrew 'em. *edit* Wiki'd it for the heck of it, and saw that there are 13 Land Before Time movies. A bit much in my opinion, but oh well, the original will still have a place in me, and I thought it was pretty good.
And not picking, but if that's the only dinosaur movie that sticks out, you've never seen Jurrassic Park? That was also one of my favorite toylines when I was a kid, and I loved the Command Center when I got it for Christmas.
What's wrong with admitting you used to like Power Rangers? Sure, I think I was losing interest around Turbo, and stopped watching when they went into space, but I still have a nastalgia for them. I still have the Ninja and original Megazords, with all their original parts amazingly. But never the Dragonzord, which I will get someday.

I think THIS is the reason people like the Dinobots so much...
They're cute and goofy and, come on, who doesn't like dinosaurs?

Life can be pretty sweet when your alt-mode is a B-2 Stealth Bomber.
And for those of you who are wondering... I'M A GIRL!
I'm not prejudiced; I hate everyone equally.

I've never been able to watch Jarassic Park all the way through. I allways fall asleep in the first sceen. Nothing happens in that sceen and it drags on forever.
I actully said that to one of the Producers of Jarassic Park as well. Met Larry Franco in person back in 2004 when he was working on Hulk. Long story short, that was my senior year of high school and he allso granduated from the same school with one of my teachers. I ended up interviewing him for my exit project.
Finnally, what ISN'T wrong with Power Rangers? I went insaine, got put in special ed, and lost alot of friends in the same year that Power Rangers first came out.

Yeah, the dad was like a construction worker or something. They had two teenaged kids and the baby (Not the mama!). That was one of the coolest shows ever.

All the above and b/c they've never been reissued to the best of my knowledge. Sure there are knockoffs and the WST versions but so far Takara didn't reissue them years ago with the bookstyles and there werent' any reissues earlier than that. Also there weren't any reissued for Hasbro either. HIGHLY unlikely Hasbro will reissue them as well, all in all they are kick ass and we want them reissued, years ago.

WANTS:
- Studio 86 Grimlock, Sludge and Slag.
- 2016 Titans Return Powermaster Prime.
- 2011 WFC Darkside Optimus Prime Takara Japan Tokyo Toy Show exclusive.
- 2008 Classics Takara Tomy Henkei Convoy (C01).
- 2008 Crystal Convoy - Tokyo Toy Show exclusive.
- 2001 RID Super Mach Alert.
PM with pics & prices. Thanks.

I disagree, the Comic Grimlock sucked
I thought the way they were in the toon was perfect
Dinosaurs with caveman personalities while in the comic Grimlock was a bully

It's very likely the molds are either broke or missing, which would be why they haven't made any new ones...otherwise they probably would have reissued at least Grimlock by now.Fortress_Maximus wrote:All the above and b/c they've never been reissued to the best of my knowledge. Hasbro has mentioned before that that is some of the reasons why figures such as Wheeljack haven't been reissued.
They also said that it is possible, though to take an existing mint condition toy & make a new mold from that, but the process is so costly that unless they know for sure they were going to get a crapload of money out of the reissue of said figure, as they & Takara have with Soundwave, then there is really no point.
