Why not to work for Walmart..
Basically, not as if it's a suprise, they suck to work for.
Got fired tonight after just a few months working there. A lady complained last night that I said "ass" in the backroom. She didn't like me, she hid and was listening to our conversation, me and my fellow workers/friends. They were swearing as well, and my boss heard the conversation, and then saw her run off to tattle to a manager. Like he told a manager, she was hiding and listening, the conversation wasn't about her at all, but because of a past conflict where I didn't back down, she told them I was the only one swearing. The others even stood up for me, so the manager, who had befriended me, said to avoid her and that we weren't making this into a big deal because the supervisor heard it, and told the lady she was lying about it being just me, and then he caught her in a couple other lies that he knew weren't true because other crewmembers had told him what she'd said and done around me. The manager and my hourly boss said she had it in for me, so I should watch my back. They didn't enter it as an official warning or verbal, just a chat to let me know something was up, they didn't want to see me in trouble because they both said I did a great job and did everything else like I was supposed to.
Not satisfied, this lady told our own manager and the store manager about it. So today my actual assistant manager who runs my department and who she called at home to complain to, heard me say "herpes" in a private conversation with my coworkers, and said it was a sexual comment and offensive. Never mind the fact that we were talking about my FEVER BLISTER, which is a legitimate and different kind of HERPES, he said he'd heard I had a complaint from the day before, and that was all he needed. I've never liked this guy and always avoided him, but didn't know he was that much of a dick.
So my supervisor (which is my immediate boss) stuck up for me again, told them I was one of his best people he had, and that I did a great job and he didn't want to lose me for something so stupid (he was part of the herpes conversation, which sprang up because someone thought it'd be funny to page me to the "lip care section" since my lip looks like hell) as their reasoning. So the store manager and my ass. (in every sense) told me "You do a great job, you come in, work hard, get everything done that you're told, but we're letting you go". They also waited until the manager that supported me yesterday and the comanager who swears like a sailor went home.
I asked if there wasn't some way to handle this besides firing, like a written repremand or official warning. She said no. I told her I liked my job and would be glad to keep it if there was a way, but nada. Then to top it all off, the store manager told me to not let this discourage me from reapplying later. So finally getting really pissed I said why the hell would I go and do something stupid like that again, took off my name badge and threw them my discount card and walked out. My hourly boss told me on the way out to call the district office and tell them what happened, and that he'd support me, and that others on the IST crew would too if they investigate it. But I highly doubt they'd go over a store managers head. He called me on his lunch though and said some of the guys were walking around really pissed about what happened with me, so it's nice to know they'll at least miss me.
So lesson learned - working for Walmart, no matter how well you do your job, sucks. If it's not this, it'll be that.

Worked for Wal Mart for two nights.
Well, three days technically.
First day orientation...
NINE AND A HALF FREAKING HOUR ORIENTATION.
I don't need to know Sam Walton's freaking history to unload freaking boxes all damn day.
I basically said screw you when they put a mentally challenged person as my supervisor and trainer.
Even though he knew less about the job then I did.
They have poopy working conditions and the managers don't give a **** about anything.
Luckily, the second day i was working Circle K(Gas Station) called and wanted to hire me.
I've worked there for a week and its millions of times better then WalMart.

As a former Wal*Martian, I feel your pain. It's all of the backroom politics that threw me off. The only good thing about Wal*Mart is that I met my future wife there. Luckily we didn't get married in a Wal*Mart, but I have seen it happen!(It's true! Stupid inbred MoFo's)

that sucks bug time
this is why i'm grateful for my job at best buy- EVERYONE is cool and understanding, and will let you get away with some stuff as long as they know you've been working and doing what you're supposed to. i think you should apply there or target, they're A LOT better than WM.

That's a lot like how I got fired from walmart. Some idiot thought I cussed at him when he barged in while I was cleaning the bathroom. I had the doorway blocked off with my cart and a bin for trash bags; a smart person would put two and two together and not enter, or at least ask first, but like most walmart customers, the guy was a **** idiot.

ConDrewfus - That's funny you said Wal*martian. We call it that too, but just for the believers that sing and clap at the store meetings. I won't sing and clap, and I actually had one of the assistants question me about it, and wouldn't end the meeting til I clapped with everyone. My theory, which I didn't share with him, is brainwashing.
I have an interview at Target tomorrow at 9am. lol.
Sucks though because I was trying to get a supervisor spot at Walmart when all this came up. I had passed my supervisor test and was working with our personnel girl to get placed. So all the last few months of good effort gone for nothing.

Wow. Your country sucks. Over here the worst we get is dickheads looking to actually do some work once in a while.
Sorry to hear about the firing, though. You'll find somewhere better soon enough anyway. Best bet's to avoid big companies, they don't value people as they can easily drum up another hiring.

Dude, I would call, call and call the corporate office, send letters and all kinds of crap just to annoy the crap out of them and give the store managers of that store a sore ass.
Dont go quietly into that deep night, RAGE against the dying of the light.
Or in this case Walmart.

I had WM call me to set up an interview a couple weeks back. I knew there was a reason I never gave them a call. It sucks that you got fired over something petty like that.

Sometimes, just checking one more store isn't worth it

OMG it's true then
I had heard about this singing crap

Yeah... I worked for Wally World for a whole year of graveyard shifts. I can vouch... That whole singing and clapping thing at the meetings? Yeah, every Wal-Mart does that. It ain't rumors.
@ OP... Dude, that sucks that you got fired, man. Good luck with your interview. Does Target know that your employment has been terminated? Try and play it like you're still employed at Wal-Mart, but looking to leave. Get that competetive pay thing. It works. I got fired from Wal-Mart, and I went and lied on my application at a grocery store. Said I was still employed by Wal-Mart, and got myself $3 an hour more than Wal-Mart paid me and the weekends off.
My story: I got dumped by my fiancee just two weeks ago (from time of this story) and I wasn't doing too well emotionally. But this particular night, I had a bad case of the runs. But I didn't have anymore call-outs left. So I went to work and told my manager from the start I wasn't feeling well. He said just do what you can do. By lunchtime, I found him again and asked him if I could go home because I was just getting worse. He said no because we had a shortage of people that night. Again, he told me to just stay and do what I could do. Three hours later he pages me to the office. I get there, and he writes me up for working too slow! Said I'd slipped under the minimum requirement of cases per hour. Then he says "off the record... I don't really think you're worth the paycheck you get here." Suddenly, being sick just kinda disappeared when I started screaming and yelling. Apparently in my fit, I had yelled some kind of threat of physical violence against my manager (Something about gouging eyes out) and my write-up turned into a firing.
I feel ya, man. They've really got an itchy trigger finger at Wal-Mart.

Hmm. What a horrible human being this woman is. Problem is, if you report her and try and destroy her job, not only will they most likely let her keep it, they'll think you're doing this to be petty.
Wal-Mart sucks, this much is true.
Target is honestly no better. (My girlfriend (and a few other people I know) are worked like dogs with next to no hours, and you're called in at the drop of a hat.)
At least with Wal-Mart you know where you're working, what time you're due in, etc. It's not perfect, but at least you know you'll be working such and such a day, or not at all.
Target is definitely expecting you to be by your phone 24/7.
You might want to consider a job in a convenience store (I loved 'em. They were great!) and I know it sucks, but I recommend keeping to yourself at work. It's nice to be a part of a group, but in all honesty...it leads to trouble much like what happened to you.
I learned that the hard way. I always kept to myself and just did my job. Made me seem inhuman, but it ensured that I got a check to pay the bills.

Well, I got a seasonal job at Target, at least that'll pay some stuff for Christmas at the least. The guy who will be my boss was impressed with my experience with Walmart, says at least I'm not walking in with nothing, I will kind of recognize the routine. I lost quite a bit of money per hour, but I got most of it back with shift premium, which keeps me just 20 cents from what I was making at Walmart. It's closer to home too, so maybe I can save some gas to offset that. Said there's a chance they would keep me, but I'll probably take the seasonal and work on something else.
I did in fact call the district office yesterday for Walmart. I spoke to the district human resources guy, I left a message and the jerk called my STORE before he called me. He was fully prepared to tell me he could do nothing, but I kept him on the phone and made him listen, and he said he was going to contact more of the involved parties at the store and get back to me, including the assistant manager that had a talk with me about it beforehand, and my own hourly supervisor whose batting for me. And my hourly said he's going to recommend the resource manager talk to the rest of my coworkers as well, so he gets their input into how it was handled badly. My boss called yesterday and said the guys got together and decided on their own to the bitch out of the store. I guess their going to start pushing her back and get her fired up. It's just sad they have to anyway, this woman shouldn't be working there anyhow, she overrides my boss every chance, goes over his head and gets special permission from the manager. It's disgusting, reminds me of Frank and Hotlips from M*A*S*H early on.
So I await his return call today to see what happens. I'm thinking if I do get it back, I'll make a big stink about it, go clock in, and then go straight to the managers office and tell them off and QUIT. That way I leave on MY terms and not theirs. And make a big scene for others to enjoy.

Gas stations are actually kind of fun to work at at night,
I clean the store for like 3 hours and when I'm done I read or I can bring in a portable dvd player and watch a movie.
I love my new job
