Yellowing Plastic

I already know that sunlight can cause it, but are there any other causes? I'm starting to repaint my Classics Jetfire and I noticed a few areas are yellowing already. They're not anything like most G1 Jetfires, but still it's not even a few years old and has never been near a window or outside.

I guess its luck then, I'm a non-smoker. I'm repainting it so its not like its a big deal, it just seemed odd.

Yeah, keep in mind that plastic is a man made invention and does not exist naturally in nature. Therefore, it is composed of chemicals, and one side effect of the chemicals that makes plastic is that it yellows as it breaks down.
Given enough time all plastics will yellow.
Here's a quick list of factors that speed up this reaction.
Heat/temperature
Additional chemicals
Smoke of all degrees
Sunlight/UV rays
Oh, and...
Dreaming of Gobots, nothing makes a TF die faster....(ok that one I made up)

I'm not entirely sure Classics Jetfire was a 'pure' white to begin with. The top of the jet, the flap part, I've seen slightly discolored on several in package toys.

On mine it's one of the arms that is slightly yellow. Not as bad as my SNES, but it's noticeable.

I would bet the oil in our skin is also a good way to get the yellowing to build up in white plastic.

The cockpit part was actually white paint on transparent blue plastic....Counterpunch wrote:I'm not entirely sure Classics Jetfire was a 'pure' white to begin with. The top of the jet, the flap part, I've seen slightly discolored on several in package toys.

The only way I can see how anything got onto it was during packaging. I have other figures that are mostly white and they seem to be fine. It might be something with the batch of plastic, since I can eliminate most factors on my end.

Buy only transformers that are yellow to begin with.
Like Sunstreaker, Bumblebee, and...and...uhhhhh...Sunstreaker and Bumblebee.

All plastic discolors, white is the most sensitive.
