Some Platinum sets are G1 re-issues; other Platinum sets are redecoes - sometimes with new molding, such as with Liokaiser and Cyclonus' Armada - of more recent toys. It's very much a mix-up, though most Platinum sets these days fall into the latter. There's also the Chinese new year ones which are a bizarre mix of everything.
For reference though I'm pretty sure the only G1 re-issue Platinum sets have been the Coneheads, Insecticons, Trypticon, Predaking, Triple Changers (Blitzwing & Astrotrain) and Autobot Intel Ops (Blaster & Perceptor). Also worth noting that despite most of these being relatively unchanged from their original releases - sometimes with a spruced-up deco or new accessories - Blitzwing and Astrotrain were released in completely different decos than they've ever had before, with Blitzwing seemingly based on Flywheels.

I think the Ratbat stickers constitute an appropriate answer to my question.
Sorry then, I thought you were asking for possible issues or breakage points before handling the toy.

I was thinking of doing a top 5 best platinum release list. I will wait till we have more but for now the ones I have found most worthwhile were:
Autobot Intel Ops set
YOTS Omega Supreme (wish I was collecting back when it was available)
Seeker Squadron (coneheads)
Trypticon

I would be interested in seeing that list. I don't have any of the ones listed here, but I do have Predaking based on your recommendation. Predaking is pretty awesome.
Question: if you could only pick one, you'd recommend seeker squadron over insecticons?

I worry about the built-in weakness of the Wreck-Gar mold. One of mine disintegrated at the handlebar. Tis why I don't transform any of them anymore....

Well the list was very biased since I already have the molds of the ones used for the 30th aniversary and you can still buy them all for reasonable prices. Aside from the Insecticons, the G1 reissues included toys that were never rereleased at large by Hasbro.
That planet of junk has those 2 wreckgars that can easily break if you tend to rutinely transform your toys, the optimus an Megatrons set is ridiculously priced and the Rodimus/Galvatron set is a really sick joke. The Armada of Cyclonus set is the better of the bunch so far since it has a nice new deco (far more affordable than the other clear set), a new headsculpt, plus it was reasonably priced for me (coming out to 20$ a figure) and its a set made up of toys that can be troop built so I feel less bad about having the same mold again.
And NYC Prime, as you will notice, I only listed 4 sets in my "top 5" list. Number 1 is Predaking but I pressed submit too early.

I dont know, its not out yet so no-one has any feedback on it. But from what I see, 3 of those 5 molds are super recent and the other 2 (kup and Blurr) either have or will have better updates. I dont really see a point to that set unless you have none of those toys yet.

No. Predaking for instance comes with totally new colours, new diecast pieces, new stickes and new sword. So even if you have your old one, this is an improved version. I had some g1 insecticons but they are 30 years old, so the idea of owning nice new minty fresh ones was appealing to me. The same could be said for most G1 sets. The seekers are complete partformers so odds are people who still have the old ones might be missing accessoies so this is an easy way to get them complete. But the autobot heros have toys that came out the last 3 years. And unlike the Cyclonus or Planet of Junk set, they dont include any different heads than the ones that came out at standard retail.
So its the set with the least changes (just some deco) and with the most recent toys.

Re: 2016 Generations Platinum sets
Are the Diecast pieces new On Predaking - or just them being put back in after being taken out previously (like sometimes happens such as with G1 Hot Rod's feet being changed to plastic as a running change).
The loose Razorclaw I got at a Carboot sale has not metal in it at all.
The First reissues does.
The First Reissue I bought has lots of metal in it (the one that isn't Metallic and lacks the combined mode sword).
I'd be curious what is changed as if it's significant I might put it a bit higher up the wants list - since I currently keep my Predacons as individuals I'm not averse to another set to keep combined.

From the Wiki:
G1 Predaking
Like Defensor and Bruticus, Predaking's components were released in both plastic and metal versions. In his combined mode featuring each member in die-cast form, Predaking is rather heavy for a Transformer. A complete combiner weighs in at exactly 1 kilogram (2.2lbs). This however does not upset the balance of the toy, as Headstrong and Tantrum have the bulk of the die-cast. Japan only received the plastic versions during the original run of the Generation 1 toyline.
Hasbro only released the individual Predacons, but a giftset was available in Japan. In late 2004, Predaking was reissued to much rejoicing of people who could not afford the after market prices on a vintage piece. This reissue used metal parts, and the pieces that were originally soft plastic were now hard plastic.
More information on Predaking at TFU.info
Japan Reissue Predaking (2010)
Accessories: Razorclaw's sword and cannon, 2 fists, 2 feet, head
Released on November 27, 2010 as part of TakaraTomy's Celebration 2010 line, Predaking featured significant differences from the previous releases. His yellow plastic was replaced with gold plastic, most of which was painted over gold. The orange, red, black, and gray plastic was replaced with metallic fleck equivalents. Nearly every sticker has been redesigned from the original, and an optional label sheet to be applied to the robot, beast, and combined mode eyes has been included. Like the previous reissue, this version featured die-cast parts.
Many of the individual figures featured changes to their face paint in either overall color or application.
This figure comes with 3 points towards the 2010 Sound Station Redemption campaign, they can be found hidden in the upper right corner front flap of the packaging.
Platinum Edition Predaking (2013)
Platinum Edition Predaking is similar to the 2010 release, complete with die-cast metal parts. New to this release is a gold redeco of the Star Saber of Beast Hunters Voyager Class Optimus Prime. In addition to several pre-applied stickers, five sheets of labels from the 2010 release are also included.

It's a shame the sword doesn't fit at all... if they were gonna give him a new weapon, why not take advantage of that and give him one that isn't, you know, tiny to a silly degree? Give him something like what Combiner Hunters Chromia got.

I dont understand, this is precisely what they gave him, a nice big sword, and like Chromia this Predaking has a big Sword used by Optimus Prime in the Prime universe.
Every other release of Predaking has him use Razorclaw's small ass sword for combined mode:

But this one gives him the big star sabre from Beast Hunters Optimus

Its better than any other release, thats for sure, and i think it looks great.

I personally think the Combiner Hunters/OTHER Beast Hunters sword would've looked even better, even though this one still looks great.
Sadly, I may have to skip out on Preds. Even though they look awesome and are at a really good price, I just can't justify 100$ for a while. Platinum Insecticons are what I have my eye on right now, and the Insecticons have always been a holy grail for me to get anyway.

We are lucky to live in an age where our Grails can be so easily gotten.
Speaking of getting things unatainable (sorry for the slight derailment), I used t send autograph requests to celebrities. Their agencies are easy to find so you could take a chance and send fan mail to their agents in the hope that they would give these to their clients and have them autograph what you sent them and send it back to you. I sent some to over a hundred celebs and got several back to varying degrees of satsfaction (from people actually writing back and giving their own extra photos to the picture being signed by an autopen or just getting a sloppily photocopied page from Kirk Douglas saying he doesnt sign anymore).
But this was 4-5 years ago, I have moved onto other hobbies since. Anyways, yesterday I got a photo sent back to me signed.... by Christopher Lee.
So yeah, something literally unobtainable that I actually obtained.

Well, either he's signing photographs from the great beyond, his dark sith lord Dooku powers are in full swing, or he's now a Vampire.
Pick your Christopher Lee medium of choice for an explanation.
Note: don't think Saruman was that powerful.
Truly an unobtainable piece of memorabilia now.
Congrats.

It's bigger than Razorclaw's sword to be sure, but it's still way too small to honestly be called a sword for him. It's more like a knife.
