Exulted, truthfully, if you really want to open it this much, just do it...!
If you can be patient and get a less pure version to mess with than I would keep it mint. It sounds like you really want to open him and mess with him, and you can't wait...so I say do it.
I mean are you planning on reselling him, and making money back, or do you just want to know that you own something that only 999 others (myself included) own, but you opened it.
If you are just keeping him, just open it, mess with it, and put it back in the box, or display it.

Do you plan on ever selling him?
I never plan to sell my figures, so I am quite happy to open them up and show em some love.
If you do plan to sell em on eventually, keep trying for a loose one etc. If you plan to keep it for ever, then open him on up and show Ironhide how fun it is to be in bot mode!
