Combiner die cast?

Postby Uniprimus » Tue Sep 25, 2007 9:40 pm

I am planning on buying a Predaking, and heard the reissue has die cast parts, and the original didn't. Did the other G1 cmbiners have die cast? Cause if not, I'll get the otiginal, cuz I want him to 'fit in'...

From what I understood there were 2 G1 versions of Predaking, one with diecast bodies and the other without. I was able to win a set with diecast parts a year ago on ebay for about $100.

There were two releases of G1 Predaking back in 1986.The U.S. release did have di-cast but the international release did not. There were a small amount of the fully plastic version that were relased in the U.S. market as gifth sets but it's my understanding that these were only sold at cataloge stores like Service merchanidice or J.C.Penny.The Di-cast one is very heavy and will cost more to ship.

I didn't realise that. My Constructicons don't feel heavy enough to have die-cast. Maybe they're KO's. Is there a site that explains the differences specifically between genuine and KO Constructicons?

The original, 86 versions of Superion, Menasor, Bruticus, and Defensor had die-cast parts, Piranacon, Abominus, Computron, Monstructor didn't have, the others I don't know.

But: The "golden-package" re-issues of Bruticus and Defensor only had plastic chests.

The Constructicons should have die cast, period. The later Scramble City combiners and Predaking were in the, what I call, transsition phase, from metal and rubber to all plastic. The first combiner releases has die cast metal in their chests, which was phased out in later, more common releases.
The resident Rewind... well, half of one

Hmmm, I'll have to check mine when I get home. I presume, for the Constructicons, it's the chromey-silver bits (legs / extendable booms) that are die cast and not the torsos?

You got it. Basically it's the joints that would otherwise be very fragile.

On the Constucticons it was really a different peice on all of them and not all of them have Die Cast. Here's a list for ya.

Mixmaster - Chest
Scavenger - connecting peice
Hook - Chest and connecting rod
Bonecrusher - Hips
Long Haul - None
Scrapper - None

Aha!

My Bonecrusher has die cast hips. Check.

My Scavenger has a die cast connecting piece (? - the little lever bit that's on his tummy). Check.

Mixmaster...not too sure about. Don't remember it being die cast.

Scrapper doesn't seem to have any; I think his legs / extendables are chrome-painted plastic so I suppose that's a check.

Long Haul is in the mail and I don't have Hook.

And they all have stamps, too. Thanks!

In my experiance, all the scramblecity limb parts (generally) had a dicast chest plate and that was it. The torso tfs were obviously different, I have an all plastic Motermaster so cant say where the diecast was, but i think Onslaught's bit of diecast was on his cheast too (cant be bothered to dig him out).

As pretty much all of them had diecast in particularly unstructural places, and as all die cast does is chip (and cost more than plastic), it is no wonder they replaced them with plastic. As much as people complain about the lack of diecast in the later versions, it is actulyl the logical and more sencible thing to have done.
