Computer Problem

Postby Tweezy » Sun Jun 24, 2007 8:11 pm

Motto: "There can only be one, like in that foreign movie where there could only be one, and in the end there was only one dude left, because that was the point"
My computer has been bogged down with viruses lately! Can anyone recommend a good piece of free virus removal software?

I'm in serious need of help here!

Avast anti-virus is what I use, never had a virus, its easy to use, and it scans your email.

The home edition is free (though you do need to register the program to keep it going(also free), and they also have a free virus cleaner, if you know you have a virus.

Also, if it's not too much trouble, scan your personal files, make sure they're clean and save them to a backup source, and then just format the computer.

Anti-Virus programs do what they claim, but after a certain point, multiple viruses have done their damage and all that's left to you is to start from scratch and rebuild what you had on there.

Time consuming, but oh so worth it in the end.

BTW...a good rule of thumb: Reformat your PC's hard drive every 6-12 months. Keeps it relatively fresh and easier to restore (because you haven't amassed as much as you'd think when it comes to personal files)

If you have the full restore disc for your computer, that's even better. Get Wipedrive, which completely erases the drive to fully brand new status, and your computer will act like it's brand new when you're restoring Windows. As I said, it's time consuming, but it works wonders, and you can make the PC stretch that full 12 months if you're good to it.
