I always thought that was a sweet name, too. It just flows nicely. Other favs are Omega Supreme(because he totally is the ultimate end for many `cons), I love the Stunticons as a combiner group name, Superion for gestalt-form name, Laserbeak was sweet, and Slugslinger was always, i though, a magnificent name for a TM. The Prime naming scheme has always been pretty cool, too. Optronix/orion pax --> Optimus Prime; Hot Rod --> Rodimus Prime, etc

The best names were one of three types:

1 ) Pseudo-latin names that relied on the emotional 'sound' ofthe words. These relied on whether the words used sound 'Stately', 'Heroic', 'Monstrous', or 'Downright evil'.

Examples: Metroplex, Ultra Magnus, Optimus Prime, Megatron, Bruticus

2 ) Names based on real words that are reliant on the words giving the impression of personality, abilities, or at least 'faction'. Many of these would also be good superhero/supervillain names.

Examples: Shockwave, Swoop, Jazz, Thundercracker, Starscream

3 ) Names pulled from either random sources or random syllables, that gave an impression of their personality or faction

Examples: Grimlock, Jhiaxus

Unfortunately, some of the worst also followed these types, especially #2... "Erector", anyone?

Anyway, a PERSONAL opinion of the best names:

Fortress Maximus
Megatron
Silverbolt
Onslaught
Sentinel Prime

This is the type of response I wish I'd taken the time to write, hehe. Brilliantly put, Val. Your format was great, and your choices were all names I'd have put on such a detailed list.

That said, I agree with the above post proclaiming the awesomeness of Seeker names in general. Dirge really has always been my personal favorite.

I like the names that drescribe something about their personality without being obvious -

Optimus Prime (Optimal=Ideal, Prime=Leader, Best)
Megatron (or essentially, Very Powerful Subatomic Partical Accellerator - perhaps a reference to his Fusion Cannon or the black hole that Megatron draws his power from)

Tough call. There should be a point chart for what a cool name needs. Like certain cool letters, or sounds.

Onslaught (a gruesome noun)

Fort Max (X's give bonus points, plus it's a good nickname)

Jhiaxus (Even spelling it right is epic)

Wreck-Gar (This name is a portmanteau, a nice combination of two words)

Blitzwing - Saying it practically paints a picture of him some how.

I always thought Starscream was an awesome name, its weird its not one most of your lists.

Everyone agrees Optimus Prime is one of the greatest names ever.
