Me and my girlfriend bought our first Transformers shortly after my 18th birthday (Cybertron Shortround and Repugnus, which means I'm Decepticons and she's Autobots, since she likes DInosaurs more than Hovercrafts) and I've been collecting shamelessly ever since, with her full support. I buy her them as presents and she buys them for me. They form an important connection between us, as well as being a passion of my own.
Sorry to get sentimental, but Transformers mean a lot to me thanks to her.

^ Hey, no need to apologize about being sentimental, it's all good.
I used to be pretty ashamed, asking for gift receipts and such, but half the time the store employees are talking about their own collections and what they think of the current line, so I don't usually feel bad at all.
Having a girlfriend who fully supports (and even feeds) my habit helps a lot in the confidence department too.

Hhhmmmm......lets see.....nah. I don't get embarrased. In fact, I will stop my friends plans sometimes just to run to the toy isle. Its fun. I am 17 yrs. old. My girlfriend goes with me, and she just looks at me funny when I find something I want.
Nahh....but seriously, she doesn't care, she actually loves the fact that I like little plastic transforming toys.
Oh, on a side note...I ran into a friend, and I was buying maybe 3 or 4, and they ask what they are. I said toys, little plastic transforming toys....thay just looked at me with another funny look. Are they for you? Uhh....yes...is there a problem with that? Nahh....

My girlfriend doesn't quite get it. I think I have OCD or something because I'm obsesive, compulsive and disorderly
I'm one of those five pairs of identical pants guys. She didn't want to go with me to Target on June 2 because she likes to sleep in on the weekends but I dragged her with me. She goes to look at iPods while I go to toys and when she comes over I'm holding the helmet (Cullin voice), Leader class Op, RoboVision Op, FAB Op and a couple other things. She says "no way, rents due" and I told her that's exactly why I brought her. I know how I can be and put in place safeguards against it. I just got RoboVision that day but have since gotten everything but the FAB but she understands a little better. Oh, an she loves the RoboVision. It's her favorite Prime after the StarConvoy she bought me when we first started going out.

I felt that way to, but here comes the big but.
If anybody looks wird at me I just stop smiling then they will be scared and go away (I look kinda agresif), and if the cashir looks at me funny, I just live the Tf there and go spend my money elwere.
F*** the world, it's my money.

That's always one alternative. But in the end you are the winner if you got the toys right?
If Transformers gives you some sort of refuge from your tiresome school life, I would think that you enjoy buying them all the more.

When I first began collecting in 1998/99 I was very unsure of what people would think of my hobby. I really thought people would see me as an idiot, and never talked to anyone other than my closest friends about collecting TFs.
Now that I'm 26 I don't care anymore. On the contrary, this is part of who I am, and if people think I'm crazy just because I adore a neat little toy such as Movie Ratchet or Blackout, or wear an Autobot t-shirt occasionally then oh well, that's their loss. What's the worst that can happen? People judge you all the time, go ahead and let them and enjoy your hobby.
Like I said, it's part of who I am and I certainly will not hide that aspect of my identity from other people.

I have never been embarassed about my beautiful collection. And if ther cashier looks at you weird, just tell e'm what Getter said. I think it was something along the lines of "I make 6 digits a year & you make 6 dollars any hour, so go to hell you stupid ****" If that was wrong, I apologize Getter. Anyways, I'm always excited when I come across a figure I don't have & I want it. My friends don't even act weirded out by my mention of TF's now, they all just go along w/it & think it to be pretty cool. Which in all reality it is
Just be proud you are a part of one of the coolest things in the universe. Cause it is.

I bought Softimus for my girlfriend, and was only a little embarassed. I guess it helped that I was buying a regular figure for myself at the same time.
You just gotta not care what other people think, and do what you want.

24 here, and my fashion sense throws off the effect of "This man is going to bite into your neck and suck your blood", so I think people are a little too intimidated by me to comment on my toy purchases. Heck, if the cashier seems pleasant enough, I'll plop my purchases down on the table, disarm with a big grin, and proudly proclaim "Yes, they are in fact for me!" That usually elicits a smile.
Heck, ever since the movie came out, I've been running into TF fans every so often. I saw one guy with a bag containing pretty well what had to be every single Wave 1 movie figure, Op included, and we struck up a conversation which ended with me recommending him the Megatron: Origins comic before he hit his stop. It's not as uncommon a hobby as some would think, and there is NOTHING to be ashamed about.

Well I'm 31 and I never get embarrassed. I have had cashiers talk to me in toys r us. I even get my girlfriend to go in for me or go in as a couple. I even have her buying them for herself now, I got her 20th ann. Prime and since then shes gotta a few smaller ones herself.
Last weekend I went in to see if they had any new stock (which they didn't, UK sucks!!) and an elderly couple were looking at the TF toys and they ended up asking me if I knew anything about the toys. I replied proudly that I collect them and proceeded to help them pick a toy for their grandson for his birthday. They got him leader class Prime on my suggestion. I think he owes me a thank you, lol.
Never get embarrased guys n gals, as it has been said befopre everyone has a hobby, ours just isn't drugs etc.

1 more 32 year old collector here. Not to worry at some point those of you dealing w/ embarrasment issues will realise that you got to be you and stop fearing what others might think about you. Besides these people whose opinions you hold so high do you know their names, do they effect your life in any way? Usualy not. So please wake up and live your life for you.

I mainly collected Star Wars toys back when I was in Highschool. Back then I was worried that someone from school might see me in a toy section. Once I got out of Highschool and had some time to grow up I realized that it didn't matter, and that the whole preconceived idea of what's "normal" is really not important.
Anymore though toy collecting has become sort of mainstream, when compared to back when I was in school. I don't think other people really think twice when they see an adult in a toy section.
