FIGURES WHICH WOULD MAKE GOOD ARMY BUILDERS
I notice people like to collect Vehicons because a lot of them appeared in Transformers Prime. What other figures would be fun to buy in bulk and make good troop builders?

I know some buy more than one of the Junkion mold (RTS Wreck-Gar and Generations Junkheap) and all the variants to make a Junkion tribe. Can't think of too many others off the top of my head... only other ones coming to mind are using Gens Tankor as Tankor Drones and any version of Scourge as a Galvatron sweep.

I recently picked up a few Combiner Wars Legends Viper figures when I found them at Target a while back. See if I can't find a few more and get a little drone air squadron going. Also would fit in with my Cobra Viper unit.

Another one: Autotroopers, though good luck finding them since they were botcon exclusives.

A lot of it depends on what you can afford to do. I agree that legends Insecticons are a good choice right now. Anything animal like makes an interesting choice, too so if you can get your hands on say some non-show Beast Wars figs that works well, too.

I second the CW Legends Viper notion. That fig is screaming to be an army of drones.

I think Generations Rattrap would be fun to army build. A bunch of fake vermin on the shelf.

Back in the day, Classics Acid Storm was great for using as generic Seekers.

Vehicons are an easy one, especially considering how many versions there are - if you've got the cash you could seriously rock several different "squads."
Quite a few Hasbro versions of "name" characters could end up as generic troop builders behind the Takara version (if the Takara deco is superior)
The mini-con 3 pack/Centuritron is another one if you want a shelf full of Ammonites.
Botcon 2013 Botcon Seeker 3 pack make some pretty good generics, as do the "standard" releases of the big names if you've got the Henkei/United versions of the characters.
Speaking of Seekers, Takara's FOC Skywarp (although game accurate) has a pretty sweet generic looking design.
Hasbro's ATB Megatron (if not labelled up as G2 ATB) would make a pretty awesome backup squadron for Takara's version. Plus the Nike version if you can find it.
Generations Scourge as the sweeps, while using United Scourge as Scourge.
Universe Cyclonus as the "Armada" and RTS Cyclonus or CW Cyclonus as Cyclonus.
Skrapnel & Bombshell would make some pretty sweet Insection clones, especially if we get a Kickback - load up one each with the Reprolabels to show who's the "original"
Hasbro's Waspinator vs Takara's as the original - plus those rumoured Botcon versions...
Gen. Tankor vs. Takara's as the original
I've also been tempted to use Hasbro's Gen. Orion Pax as a generic bodyguard for Nova Prime as I've already got two Classics-verse versions of Prime...
I think that's it from my collection.

I bought both the Universe and RTS Cyclonus for that purpose. One is Cyclonus and one is the Armada. Even better, you can give the extra Nightstick to Scourge as Fracas.

Or Generations versions all around, with slightly different application of Reprolabels (and stripping off the red paint from the hands) to differentiate the Sweeps.

The differences are subtle, but they're enough for me.
I don't usually go in for army building. But Scourge was an obvious exception to go for.

Ah great, there goes any chance I'll ever see one if everyone's gonna grab em all up for army building. Hmmm....
I suggest Bumblebee (any version) for army building. You'll never run out of army that way. Yeah, that's the ticket!

I was once considering army building Cybertron Unicron/United Ark Unicron as an army of Unicron's spawn...

Any of the Monster Gobots. They all make great army builders.
While these are not TF's, per se, they still fit, imo.

Skystalker, Scarem, Torca, Injector, Battle Ravage, Energon Divebomb, Energon Insecticon, Cruelock, Armada Thrust.
Basically anyone who has a repaint that looks more boss like than the original and would make a good leader. for example Universe Strika and Beast Machines Strika one of them is good for an ATV drone stand in.

That sounds like a great idea. A mouse army like the one in the Voltron cartoon. I don't get any mice at my house so I don't mind having them on display all the time
