Final Verdict on Movie Preview Protoforms

Postby HybridHero » Thu May 10, 2007 6:55 pm

Good or bad?

Just wondering, cause while my Canadian bretheren are getting the movie stuff early, I doubt I will, as my Zellers shelves are stuffed, and they don't look like they'll be restocked anytime soon.

I've got a huge hankering for a new purchase, and haven't gotten anything since Classics Jetfire. So until June 2nd (or whenever Zellers decides to restock), how are these little guys?

Overall they're both god figures, but I'm partial to Prime. His robot mode is fantastic, it has just as much articulation as a Marvel Legend. Starscream isn't bad, but I find him harder to pose and his vehicle mode isn't as solid as Prime's.
I told the fire to go **** itself, and it did.

Botcon 2009--Souvenir Sweeps
Botcon 2010--Souvenirs Rapido, Scorch/Shattered Glass Ravage

MISP preferred, but will consider opened NM/Complete, especially for older figures. Lots of TFs for trade! Please PM any inquiries, serious interest only!

I saw them on the shelves at Target and was not impressed. I was not the least bit inspired to buy them. I can handle the actual movie figures because even if the robot forms aren't what we as fans are used to at least they transform into something we can relate to and recognize. But the protoform figures just look like turdballs with color traling behind them.

I'll just wait until the movie figures are released.

I concur. Prime is definitely better, but they're worth the $10.

I like them so much I've got 2 of each. Glad to see unique versions of these characters that don't resemble a truck or jet in robot mode.

I just wish they'd release more protoforms besides Megatron. I would buy them to have a Cybertronian battle dispaly.

Prime is great. Robot mode is very detailed and I love the idea of a giant alien comet-thing hurtling through space complete with wheels, windshield, grill and headlights - hope he remembers his high beams for deep space! Transformation is slightly awkward though.

Starscream on the shelf next to him was an easy pass.

They're pretty cool. Prime is great, but I call Starscream Waspinator though. That makes my Classic Starscream feel better. Though sometimes I see protoform Screamer on the floor with a Classic Screamer missle next to him, but that's another story.

I dont think its really a good reason to dislike them
because their alt. modes is something your not use to.

open your minds man :P

I cant wait to see a centaur bot mode,
4-armed bot, etc. etc.

You must be a young 'un. :P

Us old timers, we're set in our ways. ;-)

Besides, if it looks like a turd, smells like a turd and flies through space like a turd on fire, it probably is a turd.

However, what a great alt mode. Whoe would ever suspect a turd of being a Cybertronian? Brilliant!

Overall I was impressed with the figures. I kind of wish they didnt have so much kibble on their back but it was hard to not have the kibble. Their designs are defiently unique in either a good or bad way. I really like Prime's robot form, and I like Starscreams alternate form (though it does remind me of the Kazon ship designs from ST Voyager). I am glad I baught them and they are definetly worth the $10.

personnally i love em! i am probably one of the very few irish fan to have em because i went to the bother of ebaying them early (they will probably never get released in ireland) so i am totally delighted to have them.

Prime has a great bot mode, although i think screamer has the better alt mode-

Oh and they display great together too thanks to primes little fire thing, it shapes around screamers hand as if he is trying to deflect the blast-check it out!

Dude, you are so right, i knew the altmode looked like something from Star trek, i just couldn't figure out which one..Kazon ship..

Image

Although, the altmode isn't that fantastic, it is however, a Protoform Transformer, which has never been done before, and in actuality, is a novelty because of that..I mean its the first Cybertronian, space comet, protoform ever!!! next to Megatron's cybertronian fighter, these pods are actually pretty cool, when you consider the context of what they represent..(Cybertronian Technology, without earthen influences)

Plus they didn't hover in orbit like Beast Wars, they fall to earth as comets..and not as a goo..Though it would have been a no brainer for Hasbro to release pods that had goo in them like He-Man has before...

Anyhow, plus in space if an alien race with giant warships came upon them, they would look like floating debri...

Wow, that would totally make for an interesting side story, where the raoming autobots end up on a giant warship and have to battle aliens before they escape and float some more until the movie saga begins...

And a new term is coined. Unless I just haven't heard it before.

Same for me tho, the only ones I sort of like are Voyager & Leader Primes, and Blackout...

I found them very unique, and simply tossing the cheesy flames makes the alt modes much better. I was skeptical, but they really are decent figures and well worth the 10 bones.
