Whirl looks even crappier in hand, and I wouldn't pay 99 cents let-alone seventy bucks.
I think you're misreading his post. Or maybe I'm misreading yours?

Vicalliose wrote:What do you mean by 'realism' exactly? I think the term you're looking for might be "G1". Honestly I'd say most of the modern designs just add a little detail while keeping with a typically 'cartoony' style. I don't see what makes Springer seem realistic when his alt mode looks like it fell out of a video game like Borderlands or Ratchet and Clank, and his robot mode still has humanoid proportions. Unless you're just upset he doesn't look like this with a few extra joints:Caelus wrote:Indeed. I'd say that figure represents my ideal transformer. We have some additional in-hand images of Hasbro's Transformers Generations 30th Anniversary Voyager Whirl thanks to the CYBERGEEKS Alliance Facebook page. These images gives us a great look at the figure in robot mode, plus his accessories and sticker sheet. Also pictured are the back of the box with bio and instructions, which reveal the name of his third mode, "Heloped". Basically a GERWALK mode. For those wondering about his size we a few comparison shots with Voyager Springer, Deluxe Skids, and Legends Swerve. Enjoy the images mirrored below.

I could see myself getting very annoyed with finding a good pose with those legs of his. I can't help but think they could have done him just a bit better/differently.

I could honestly live without this. It too slavishly imitates the G1 appearance. Especially considering the style of the figures now, I'd have preferred his IDW appearance

Re: First In-package Generations Whirl Image
Oh hey, he's not as short as I feared!
But those last pics make me sad that he's not very MTMTE-ish. Really, every pic of Whirl by himself gets me excited, then seeing him with Swerve or Skids brings me crashing right back down. *sigh*
The "chicken legs" are halfhearted at best.

Re: First In-package Generations Whirl Image
I'm not convinced that the IDW form can't be arrived at by mistransforming the heloped mode, especially with confirmation that the arms can be deployed in that form.
Either way, though, he has the IDW face, and since Transformers change their bodies substantially below the neck when they scan a new alternate mode, this satisfies my need for the character. Thrilling Thirty Tailgate, Swerve, and Skids don't have their Cybertronian alternate modes either, so it fits in my mind.
No... I said Springer is my ideal Transformer - as in, not just for this line, but for all of ever - and the only reason I could see not to buy him is that he isn't super-realistic like a Binaltech/Alternator figure (if that's the sort of thing you're into, which I'm not).
I don't know how you got anything else from what I said...

Not sure if this is known but I got a notice from BBTS that it's in stock along with Deluxe wave 4 so I'll have it soon.

It's been hard, Springer is awesome - but haven't found him for less than $22, and he's big, and bright. I did spring for Soundwave, and that was money well spent. Grimlock is cool, but I'm just so happy with animated grimlock

Anyway, Whirl looks like Whirl - and he looks solid, clean and stylistic, very unique among generations toys.

According to various people, Whirl is starting to arrive at BBTS. For retail however it might be a bit longer wait as Rhinox and Double Dealer haven't even shown up yet.

The "toes" appear to be held in place by some sort of teeth/gear system. He may be able to hold more poses than we think.

Nope. I really did misread a bunch of posts. Not sure if sleep deprivation is getting to me or something in my diet is just steadily making me dumber. Lots of stuff running together when I read lately.Caelus wrote:I don't know how you got anything else from what I said...
Sadly I cannot just delete posts. So now I'm going to have to do a bunch of editing.
Back on subject. I wish they'd show his legs transformed differently in more pictures, just so people would stop bringing it up. Though really it only makes him shorter, and he's already a head shorter than springer.
I'm pretty sure it won't work, judging by how his "third mode" transforms, but with the cockpit as big as it is it would probably look really weird anyway.Caelus wrote:I'm not convinced that the IDW form can't be arrived at by mistransforming the heloped mode, especially with confirmation that the arms can be deployed in that form.

Perhaps a 3rd party 'head' that clips onto the cockpit, then? I think It'd look doofy, probably, but I imagine there'll be people who want the comic book nose-guns-forward look badly enough to go for it.

it really looks like the legs are designed to go the other way around...look at the thighs...why would they design it so that the hollow sides are on the outer thigh and the solid surface on the inner?

Anyone else have a problem posing Skids? It seems even in the pic with Whirl, he needs to be propped against something. I have him propped against my pc tower due to his heavy back/top weight. A shame because hes one of my favorites from the wave.

Most likely it was designed with "normal" legs and the "chicken" legs were added in last minute, that Whirl's popularity surge came in after the toy was plotted out and that Hasbro tried to appease to the newfound fanbase without completely scrapping the work they already did.

Most Skids figures have the tops of his legs backwards. Mine was too and I had to pop off his legs and switch the top of his legs. If you look there is a small L and R on them and they have been put on Skids backwards.

I fixed that immediately on mine and he still doesn't stand up straight, because his ankles don't flex forward enough to compensate for his short heels.

Well, past All Hail Megatron and the issues that came with the new generations figures, I haven't read any of the new comics. Nor do I care to. So for me, Whirl looks beautiful.
