They existed at a time when things like that just weren't common. Had visionaries came out a few years later they would have likely seen a mega drive/snes game as a cross promotion. After their doomed release no one card enough and even now I just can't see a point, you may as well go play some good rpg games instead.

True. However, I wonder why they didn't release the animals or summoned totems?

Might have been poor sales, I've never looked that deeply into the visionaries so for all I know there might have been plans if fate was kinder to them

I would have thought just a smaller, non-poseable, transparent coloured animal would have been a good idea. The Real Ghostbusters figures came with similar "ghosts", didn't they?

They were just little knights with holograms. The holograms were the selling point, not what the hologram represented. It's a weird marketing angle to consider now, but it wasn't a toyline that was supposed to be that deep and involved to begin with. The vehicles were cool though.

The hologram thing was big at the time though but realistically, they were fancy stickers...the gimmick was fancy stickers.

Yep. The toyline was very basic and generic without the stickers. Only slight variations with the figures: colour, armour decal design, head sculpt etc Otherwise they were all standardised and interchangeable. I'm probably even remembering the vehicles being better than they actually were.

Nope.
I think it's completely possibly to bring back a design that homages they original look, without it looking cheesy.
That’s certainly a tall order, personally his redesign is one of the best things about this comic...it might be the only good thing about it actually.

He's got this fierceness to him that gives him battle credibility - which the story promptly destroys, unfortunately. Regardless, he looks like he just stepped out of a franchise like Dragonball or Street Fighter, then donned some Spectral Knight gear, and is now ready to seriously kick butt.
There would have been a fair few fighting games where his look would fit in just fine, like darkstalkers or guardian heroes. Maybe this series can turn it around to something readable, I want to have faith in the writers. The story missteps though are shaking it

^ I hear that. It wouldn't shock me if they only really outlined enough plot to cover two issues then stretched it out to cover a TPB's worth of content. This is what I'm telling myself to try and keep some faith that the end might be good.

I think the old designs can work quite well in modern media, the key is using the appropriate style to do so.

What's that from? It looks garish and also a little like he's taken primes colour scheme.

I agree. Perhaps a few adjustments here and there, and we could have an aesthetic that was a more modern representation of the original look.

That's Spectral Knight Cryotek, who has always had that colour scheme.
Not sure whether it's fan art/comic but it is in french.

We have "Cryotek" in the gutter! But it's the Transformers one*
*It's the blue repaint of Prime Beast Hunters Voyager Predaking. This is the gutter of disappointment after all.

I liked that predaking mold...for about 5 mins...
@Sorry ThunderThruster but I still don't think the designs hold up, especially when juxtaposed with the IDW tfs... (which again they shouldn't be but what can you do)

iTunes Preview for IDW Transformers vs Visionaries #3
- Motto: "Till All Are Pun!"
From the regular iTunes source, and via a tip from fellow Seibertronian Daniel Adkins, we have a three-page preview of another IDW Publishing comic featuring Transformers (barely) due out on the 28th of February, bringing the total of issues to cover (preview and review-wise) that week to four: the third chapter in the mini-series of Transformers vs Visionaries!
Take a look at the mirrored pages below, and join the discussion as we see more of Virulina's plan to power take hold over some Spectral Knights too, and the first appearance of a Cryotek character in this new universe for the franchises.

The clock is ticking! Leoric finds himself exiled from New Prysmos by Virulina, who Merklynn has named the new leader of all the Visionaries. Can Leoric and his loyalists save Cybertron from being totally changed into a new homeworld for his people? Should they?
