Damn right it's childish. We have enough to deal with in the grown-up world, we're not allowed to step out of it for as long as we can?

I freely admit I'm 5 years old when I buy my TFs. Hell when I started collecting again over the summer just about every time I brought a new toy to buy up to the cashier at TRU we got into like a 10 minute discussion about how awesome transformers are. I even told a woman cashier that me and all the "losers" like me collect this stuff. She not to be silly and say things like that because she and her husband collect stuff like this to. I also had a cashier at Chapters smile at me as she rang through the Stormbringer TPB and tell me how awesome it was.

Anyway the way I see it is when I was a kid I couldn't get all the transformers toys I wanted. Now that I'm older and still want them I see no reason why I shouldn't buy them as long as I'm not breaking the bank.

Don't really have the space to display, unfortunately, most are in big boxes and such. There are a couple of shelves where books share their space with the likes of my MP Convoy, but for the most part, I keep 'em in boxes and play with 'em as and when I feel like it (which is most of the time, to be fair :P).

I redid my office to have 4 display shelves that wrap around 3 of the walls. An additional shelf just for the 'Formers and a few pieces scattered around the house. Oh yea and a complete wall made of K'Nex that hold my Star Wars guys. That had to move to the spare bedroom.

I need more display space!!!! :D :D

Though, i tend to tell those who tells me it's childish that it's a serious collector hobby, i just see it as FUN things to do chasing figures down. Fact is, i could careless of wat they think of our cool hobby. Come'on peole, we have our own community here. Every Seibertron member collects transformers. We are scattered ALL OVER the globe. Our committment for this has brought us 2gether, here. Now they even made a real-life movie bout the stuff we collect, and people LOVED da movie. Even those who don't collect TFs. How cool is that?

Seibertron still rocks dat hard.

The way I see it, I'm the adult now, and it's my turn to decide what that means.

There's a lot of supposedly sophisticated mature things other adults are supposedly into, that I really want no part of. And there's plenty of other ways to throw away larger amounts of money. Collecting toys don't hurt no one, so leave me alone!

But yeah, of course it's childish. They are mostly made for kids. It's only a recent phenomenon that they've been exploiting the more grown-up end of the market with collector junk. And frankly I often find the regular stuff more interesting.

And, no offence guys, but I think it would be a little sad if I took it all too seriously. There's more than enough aspects of life that need to be taken seriously as it is.

Well they're TOYS. Once you get past that, they're for all ages. I mean if you dig the vehicle or robot mode and you would just like to get the figure for display or maybe you still feel the rush of a opening a new Transformer, go for it! Then you can call them figures instead of toys.I'm only 14 myself but that's my view.

The ironic thing is I felt more childish for liking them when I was 14 than I do now.

It'd be ridiculous to say something negative about me for collecting Transformers...

especially when you could say plenty about the fact that I'm just needlessly perverted. :?

I was hooked back in 1985 with the first episode too, but... I was told that it was 'silly' and 'inappropriate for a young lady' by my folks and that 'girls can't play with Transformers' by this snotty boy in my 5th grade class (can't remember his name, but I'll always remember that stupid comment)
Now being an 'adult' with money of my own, I buy what I want. And when one arrives in the mail...let's just say I revert to being a kid and there is a lot of 'yay!' and ripping open of boxes. -evil grin-

Ahhhh. You say what I feel! I know many people who have lost touch with their childhood and generally, they are NOT the happiest people.

While I personally don't have many happy childhood memories to bring back, I do agree with what you are saying. Opening my TRU Soundwave brought back the happy memories of recieving my G1 Soundwave for Christmas many years ago.

I personally don't look at collecting Transformers or ANY toys childish. It's how you act that makes you that way. Personally, Transformers open up my imagination and sense of wonderment that in turn help make me a better person. The sense of joy, every bit as real as that plate, doll, or firearms collector, I get when I find that one Transformer I was looking for makes my life happier.

Do non-collectors think that collecting TFs is childish? Who cares? I'm busy playing Transformers with my daughter and being happy.

Collecting TF isn't childish. The huge fanbase has already proved it. So far i've heard comments from my peers who say that TF is outdated, childish, lame, geeky etc... But i really just don't care about what they say.

Moreover, considering that loads of grown-ups collect and like TF, i would say that it isn't childish.

Well I am 25, been married for 4 years and we have a 4 yr old son. My in-laws HATE the fact that I collect toys. But they are in-laws who care what they think. I share my TF's with my son. Well some of them. But the point I am making is yes it is childish. But if you want to hold onto your childhood thats your business nobody else matters. I am proud to collect toys. So is my wife, according to her she would rather me buy Transformers and Star Wars figures than go out and drink in a bar. I stand up and salute all of my fellow collectors we are what keep Transformers alive!.
What Transformer are you? (Movie)

Ironhide

You are the weapon specialist. You are probably the only Autobot who doesn't give a crud about the humans and repeatedly asks permission to blow something up. You are very strong and big as well as always suggesting the BIGGER sort of weapon. You are also good at sports; mostly contact sports. You can be easily irritated and may have anger issues. You also have a huge truck mode. Sweet.

30, and there are a lot older than me around here still collecting.

I don't think there's anyone in my life who's concerned about my collecting TFs. My housemate plays with 'em sometimes... admittedly my girlfriend sometimes complains about how much space they take up, but at the same time, she called MP Convoy our 'baby'... :P
And any friends we have round are almost always fascinated, either by whatever I'm kitbashing, or something on the table... or Max if he happens to be out...

Everyone loves Max. 8)
