KFC Heavy Metal New Leader (MP Ultra Magnus)
Re: KFC Heavy Metal New Leader (MP Ultra Magnus)
Some people want Magnus to be all one piece, however: I don't know how the transformation of this KFC toy will be, but I have to believe in order to make that work you need some VERY thin panels that fold into each other to get the legs all the way near the white truck body. It will have to be one sturdy as hell toy (easier said than done), and probably won't be fun to transform at all.
If they can make it work fairly easy more props to them.
Everyone knows Takara MP would be a Truck plus armor, it is a direct homage to the G1 toy. An offical Magnus has to win out here for sure.

I wonder if the transformation will be along the lines of Titanium Magnus...

That's not a horrible looking figure. While I do love City Commander, I won't pretend that I wouldn't like my Ultra Magnus to have more posability.

Yeah, at present it doesn't look all that different from Titanium UM...

Why anyone would buy a MP Ultra Magnus that will fall apart within hours of pulling it out of the box when Takara is doing a quality version is beyond me.

All the smaller toys by default use thiner, weaker, lighter plastic
Lets try to give KFC the benefit of the doubt,As some did for PE.
I plan to buy this KFC Ultra Magnus toy. As I like the scale, the Titanium version & the design.
Buyers are not buying the same design set up. The Takara version is a parts former. While the KFC version is not.

Wow, what did you use before, the queen of all swear words? o_O
And to Tsutsukakushi, a company's reputation is a very valid reason to not purchase from them. I sometimes wonder if you are just a shill for some of these 3P companies. I'll never buy another Lexmark printer because of the bad experiences I have had with the two I owned. It doesn't matter if they got better and are really high quality today. I'm not going to risk it again. The same can easily be said for these 3P toy companies.

It's not even MP scale, it's too big to be. The poll ended with people wanting the insanely huge version that's out of scale with the MP line.
The design looks cool, but KFC has this tendency to make products that look really crappy quality wise, they seem to use less paint than Hasbro does.

Tell that to the PE, TW and FP headmasters. They are all smaller than the KFC cassettes and much better quality.Tsutsukakushi wrote:All the smaller toys by default use thiner, weaker, lighter plastic

Re: KFC Heavy Metal New Leader (MP Ultra Magnus)
I have bought MULTIPLE products from Fansproject (6), Perfect Effect (3), iGear (3), Toyworld (3), knockoffs of Fansproject (2), a knockoff of Master Mind Creations (1), and knockoffs of Takara (1). I even have CMs products (3). I will gladly provide my honest opinions on all of them, with the pros and cons of each, as well as a list of what they are, if anyone is curious. None of them scared me off of future products.
I have bought 1 and only 1 product from KFC. It was the two tiny little add-on missiles/guns for Fall of Cybertron Ultra Magnus. They cost a whopping $20, and are the cheapest piece of Transformers-related merchandise I have ever bought. The plastic is terrible, and the design makes it virtually impossible to actually assemble and disassemble as intended. If you do, the cheap plastic makes it virtually impossible not to break it.
If they can't get something that small and simple right, how am I supposed to trust them for something like this?
Every product a company makes affects its reputation. Every single one. Heck, that's the whole point of trademark law: if you work hard to put out a quality product, your reputation reaps the benefits.

As much as people hate on KFC, none of their stuff actually broke on me. I really like the stuff I bought from them (which is limited to tapes; didn't pick up their Perceptor).
At MP scale this holds no interest for me.

Seriously, they had two options:
- robot in scale with MP 10, being about two heads taller, but the alt-mode being smaller than the MP 10 cab
- alt-mode in scale with MP 10, but with a huge robot-mode that's taller than MP 01
Option two won because it would have looked weird to have a truck next to MP10 that's smaller than it is, because we're apparently all in this hobby to collect cars and trucks and don't give a toss about robots.
I bet you this is going to sell terribly, because it's going to be much more expensive than the Takara version that comes out sometime this year, which will satisfy the alt-mode fetishists and the minority of robot fans equally.

Re: KFC Heavy Metal New Leader (MP Ultra Magnus)
I kinda wanted this to be leader scale. As I wanted it more for classics & less for MP. I wanted it to be Leader scale so it could be a Competing scale with other Leader toys from Rid,AEC,Movie,TFA,TFP-BH,2014 30th Leader scale toys.
If KFC's purpose for this toy was to compete with HasTak's MP TF toys. Then I support the increased voted on scale. This toy should be much bigger in bot mode compared to MP-10,As it has armor. If the price is not insane,I'll try to buy it.
After that Brick DOTM Ultimate Optimus toy. I Have lost faith in HasTak. tacked on armor on a Leader scale toy seems like a uphill battle. It'll be hard to make this thing look good & be well articulated. The Takara Price for this will be well over $300.
Hasbro trying to sell this at USA TRU stores won't be a easy task. The size & price might make TRU USA say,no thanks.

Personally I'd prefer the robot mode to scale, but I also couldn't live with the undersized alt mode. Neither of those options will lead to a Masterpiece figure

While we didn't know exactly when it was going to happen, we knew MP Ultra Magnus was on his way. The designer hinted that MP-10 has elements required to make UM work, you only make that extra effort for one reason. If the KFC people have any brains at all they will scrap this one
