I’m reading the novel “World War Z”, which is the basis for the upcoming movie (thought I hear the movie is not very similar to the book). I came across this little bit, wherein a US Air Force pilot has parachuted from a plane and is checking out her situation while drifting to the ground. I wonder if anyone with US military experience, particularly Air Force, has heard of this connection to Transformers:
I checked to make sure my survival kit was intact, still strapped to my thigh, and that my weapon, my Meg*, was still jamming me in the ribs.
*Meg: The pilot's nickname for their standard issue .22 automatic pistol. It is suspected that the appearance of the weapon, its extended suppressor, folding stock, and telescopic sight, give it the appearance of the old Hasbro Transformers toy "Megatron."
Interesting if true!

Although I'm not currently in the military, that is actually a REALLY cool find. I love it when Transformers is referenced in works outside of Hasbro.

Yeah, I caught that as well when I read the book. I never thought it was legit, though, as Megatron is a Walther P-38, and I doubt that model has ever been a standard issue Army sidearm. Maybe with all the accessories it looks similar to it.

My inner nerd made a little jump when I read that in WWZ.

Not bad, but in reality USAF female pilots are issued the M11 (SIG Sauer P228), chambered in 9mm. Max Brooks loves the .22 though, as he explained on the zombie episode of Discovery's Sons Of Guns.

Interesting. I remember reading that part but sadly didn't catch the reference. Still it's awesome that TF references are used in th real world.
