So long story short, I will be moving to another country in a few months and had to ship a lot of stuff including my Transformers collection. As any of you who've ever had to transport their collections will know it's about as fun as dying slowly in space but less relaxing.
I was facing three big decisions: who deserved to be packaged up and sent, who deserved to be taken to a hobby shop and sold off and who deserved the highest accolade of all, to remain on my computer desk and travel with me personally like Woody with Andy.
Packaged and sent: I got lucky here. I managed to send about 95% of my collection. Even my Masterpieces and Alternities managed to stay in their boxes, an accolade normally reserved for G1 figures.
Rejected and sold: Binaltech Convoy. He's absolutely rubbish, his bumper keeps falling off and his paint scratches super-easily. Weeeak. Also Cybertron Crumplezone. I like the guy but he takes up too much space for what he's worth.
Remaining with me: ROTF Brawn and Bludgeon. I wanted one of each faction and these guys are both fantastic figures.
So, have any of you been in the same position? Will you be in the future? Who was spared and who was lost?

I literally just did the same thing a few weeks ago..I didn;t move to a different country but I moved quite a ways away from where I was.
I too had to sell off or get rid of quite a few of my own shelfwarmers, mostly consisting of movie figures which are actually very easy to get rid of.
The figures that came with me were mostly my 3rd party stuff and my few MP figures. I was ridiculous in packing the ones I had to mail..Luckily BBTS is kind enough to provide good amounts of bubble warp that came in handy
1 figure that stayed very close to me was my armada unicron..For some reason he got to ride shotgun with me

When I moved about 2 years back, the area around my computer desk (where about 85% of my displayed stuff happened to be) was literally the last area I dealt with, packing a large chunk up less than 12 hours before the moving truck was planned to arrive.
I didn't need to get rid of anything at that time, so luckily I didn't have to worry about that.
Unfortunately due to the period of events we faced (weekend 1, move. weekend 2, ran a convention. weekend 3, family commitments) it was almost a month before we finally were able to take the time to set everything up, figure out which bookshelves would stay in the living room and which I could use in the spare room for my collections.

I've moved my collection several times. I will be moving again in a little over a year and I have just now started the process of packing and sorting.
Moving to another country would almost be out of the question with this stuff. Another solution would have to be found.
Good luck with your effort, I know first hand how hard it is.

Thank you, I appreciate that.Counterpunch wrote:I've moved my collection several times. I will be moving again in a little over a year and I have just now started the process of packing and sorting.

Only about half my collection (the post-Cybertron purchases) moves around with me, the other half (my G1, BW, and Armada stuff) lives at my parents house. If I tried to move it all at once, I think I'd have to hire a plane.

Re: Moving house with your collection, the tough decisions.
Kinda
I moved nearly 500 miles away to go to college. I have a huge TF collection which I split into smaller collections: G1ish, Alternations and MP, Classics, and others.
I took Classics with me since it was the small but not too small of a collection. I left my G1 collection at home. I WANT MY G1 COLLECTION DOWN HERE! I want them down here cause 1) it's my favorite collection and 2)my brother now has a somewhat destructive 5 year old that I'm costantly worrying about getting into them and 3)up there I rarely get to enjoy them. The problems with getting them down here are 1) the difficulty getting them down here safely 2)the crime rate of the city is higher than the country (which is where they are now) and 3)I have limited space here.
So maybe one day I'll get my G1 collection down here but for now I'm stuck worrying about a collection that is worth a significant amount of money.
