My BotCon 2011 adventure (pictures ahoy!)

There is more to Transformers than movies, cartoons, comics and toys. Discuss anything else Transformers here.

My BotCon 2011 adventure (pictures ahoy!)

I went to BotCon today and I had much more fun than the last time I went in 2009.

I had to work on Saturday but I was at least able to hang out Friday night and attend Sunday. It was a real pleasure to meet Flux Convoy, Mkall and Dead Metal (briefly since he was on his way to a panel). And it was nice to see Ryan and Delicon again.

I got to hang out with Mike Costa a bit and looked for some figures with him.

I talked to Andy Schmidt about a Generation 2 collections from IDW. He says it might be and doesn't see why not. However, he's not sure how it would even be collected because G2 eventually crosses over with GI Joe.

He also told me that the new Classic Transformers volumes are recolored and will include the entire Marvel run, even the Marvel owned characters like Spider-Man and the Neo Knights. Looks like I'm double dipping on those collections *sigh*

At the Hasbro IP panel, I was most excited for the upcoming Transformers 3D ride at Universal Studios and they showed a quick trailer. It should be awesome.

At the Transformers Prime panel, I was able to walk up to Roberto Orci and tell him how much I dig Alex Kurtzman and his work.

I was most impressed with the Kree-O figures. It looks like they figured out how to make block Transformers look good unlike those Built to Rule toys (ugh). Those Lego inspired mini-figures of Optimus and Bumblebee look great.

I love the giant displays of Optimus Prime and Megatron made up of block pieces.

And they gave away exclusive Optimus toys with the Matrix in his chest.

Cars from the movie were on display...

Starscream is one of the most epic costumes I've ever seen.

The Unicron Amazon exclusive toy looks amazing.

I loved this diorama...

I felt this Beast Wars manga was overpriced.

These custom matryoshka dolls were awesome!

The upcoming Prime figures look awesome. I'll have to pick those up.

As for the haul...

I've always wanted the book style Takara reissue of Megatron. It's alluded me for the past several years. I always saw it for around $90 but by the time I came back to buy it, it was already bought or the shop went out of business. I snagged it for $115, not too crazy but I'm glad to have it. I had a G1 Megatron as a kid but lost it years ago.

Image

Picked up Shout Factory's Beast Wars box set. Can't wait to dig into that series again. Beast Machines will probably be in the works if this box set sells like hotcakes.

Image

The non-Transformers score was a DC Classics Jack Knight variant. I'm reading Starman and I had to have this figure.

Image

I also picked up David Willis' Shortpacked paperbacks, which I can't wait to read.

Good times.

Thanks for the pictures, I have to agree the Prime figures look pretty damn cool and the Kre-o blocks are amazing. I hope to try and get out there next year.

Great pictures!

Well, I didn't run into anyone from Seibertron.com, but I didn't really know who I was looking for either, so it's ok...

This was my first time at a BotCon, and I had a great time! I did meet lots of really nice people, got autographs, bought almost too much stuff to bring home with me on the plane and had my back tattoo extensively photographed. In fact, some people were so excited to get a look at it, they forgot all about personal space. All in all, a wonderful experience that I hope to have again!

And that Stunticon set is beeeeeyoooooteeeeeful!

It was a pleasure to meet you man. I didn't know they were able to print the Marvel material again or that they were recolored. Had I known, I wouldn't have picked up the first two Titan trades at the show. Good to know though, that's pretty cool. :)

I looked out for people with Seibertron.com shirts or if the staff pointed out people.

Which reminds me, I bought the BotCon shirts from last year but I have no idea where they are. Ugh.

I didn't see one person there with a Seibertron.com shirt on - not that they weren't being worn, I just didn't see anyone. I sat next to a couple of guys on the plane though that were pretty nice! One had his own podcast (Open Your Toys) and the other was a storm chaser. Watched Transformers the Movie (86) and blabbed about Transformers all the way to L.A. Funnest plane ride ever! :D
