So yeah, I got back into anime. After what, three years? Sure its not alot, but after the growing popularity of shows like Naruto, Bleach, One Piece and the like, I grew a bit tired of anime. I did try to watch those but...man, fillers are boring. Plus I dint like them anyway. I watched Evangelion out of boredom a while ago (and later regretted doing so..you all know why). Obviously, I dint like it. So far, the only mecha serie I can say I was a fan of was Transformers, and even then its debatable if it does count or not.

Then I watched Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann. Holy crap.

Suddently, it all made sense WHY I was never able to stomach Evangelion. I like Super Robots. I like it when its silly, over-the-top and upbeat. So, any other Super Robot anime that is a must-see for me? (Aside from Gao Gai Gar, that is already on my to-watch list).

Gaiking: Legend of Daiku Maryu. It's awesome and the theme tune is win!

I don't watch much Super Robot anime so I don't have any suggestions at this time but I'll say that when you do watch GaoGaiGar, stick with it beyond the first half of the series...it gets much better in the 2nd half and FINAL is great too.

not really an anime, but Megas XLR is the 2nd most epic thing involving giant robots, Right behind Gao-gai-Gar

I can't really help as I am more of a Real Robot than Super Robot fan.

But I would recommend Overman King Gainer, Gundam type story (made by Tomino the brains behind Gundam, Ideon and others) with mecha more in the Super range.
