Non-G1 reissues: Would you buy them?
- Motto: "Nothing says more about us than the futures we left behind."

We have a thread for speculative discussion of new US G1 reissues, so here's another speculative thread: What about reissues of other stuff? What if, with the 30th anniversary looming, Hasbro decided to take us on a tour of the franchise's history? Would you buy it? Would you hate it? And what non-G1 figures would you like to see reissued?

I'd like to see that for Beast Wars/Machines. Missed a few of the show characters toys and there are a couple I would happily replace. The price would have to be reasonable though, if they cost to much I'd save my cash for my Neo-Classics set instead

I'd love to see some of the G2 figures. The Laser Rods would be pretty sweet reissued, and this time without the GPS.

Right, now that I know we can talk about this, my two cents...
I think non-G1 reissues would likely be cheaper than G1 reissues, due to the lack of die-cast metal (they did say in that Gizmodo article that it makes toys very expensive to produce, and that drives the pricepoint up), and possibly less likely to suffer mold degradation due to the effects of time... Though some may still be unavailable for whatever reason (I seem to recall Side Burn in particular being said to have had the mold used too many times for it to be usable any more).
I think a G2 Megatron reissue would be a nice compromise due to the inability to rerelease G1 Megatron in the states. But maybe that's just me.
I believe one of the figures that should be reissued at some point is RID Galvatron. Having ten modes makes it a nice "landmark" figure, and I think people should have a second chance at it.
Arctorro: Feel you. I never did get the first Rattrap figure, and I wish I had. And I didn't get a Tarantulas until the 10th Anniversary line rolled around. That said, what would you consider a reasonable price? I seem to recall the 10th anniversary line selling for about fifteen bucks for a boxed Deluxe with a packed-in DVD and a Transmutate build-a-figure part. Given the recent price increase, I can see the extras being dropped, but that'd still leave us with a Deluxe-sized Transformer with an MSRP of fifteen bucks. Which is where the new deluxes are. Seems reasonable to me. Would that work for you?
Mkall: I seem to recall Takara actually reissuing Laser Prime in Japan, so the Laser Rod molds are probably still good, fingers crossed.

What I'm worried about is that they would be a TRU exclusive and those @#!*%@!!! would bump the prices up. Main reason I only got four G1 reissues was because TRU were price gouging where I live (don't know about prices for anywhere else).
I would happily pay standard Australian prices ($25 - $30 for a deluxe) for Beast Wars/Machines figures that I would most likely buy from BBTS or some other online retailer. Anything more than that and I'd probably have to pass though.

Re: Non-G1 reissues: Would you buy them?
I'd love to see some of the non-US late/post-G1 stuff get reissued in the states (or by Takara in Japan for that matter) such as Victory etc. In fact, a reissue Dinoking would instantly have my money as would Metalhawk.
As for other series, not really as I've been able to acquire most of that stuff that I wanted. I have basically every US and Japanese Beast Wars figure ever released, including all variants and repaints from the various lines. I have all of the Cybertron/Energon/Galaxy Force etc. figures I wanted as they were easily acquired via online retailers and ebay.
I guess I'd go for some G2 reissues, especially combiners like the Aerialbots and the never released Stunticons.

Oh, they were expensive as hell Stateside too. And the stickers peeled. And they had to neuter the missile launchers because of toy safety laws.
None of these problems cropped up in the Beast Wars 10th Anniversary line. No stickers, reasonable prices, non-exclusive, and everything was left in working order. I'm guessing that third one had something to do with when the laws were changed relative to when the molds were made, but my point remains.

I never applied the stickers because I was worried about them peeling, and the missiles did suckNemesis Primal wrote:Oh, they were expensive as hell Stateside too. And the stickers peeled. And they had to neuter the missile launchers because of toy safety laws.

I did get my TM Rattrap because thanks to that line, but for the life of me I can't remember how much I paid or where I got him from. Was so ecstatic about finally getting him everything else was/still is a blurNemesis Primal wrote:None of these problems cropped up in the Beast Wars 10th Anniversary line. Hasbro has proven that they can do it, just depends on what they would be willing to charge for them. I can't see why $15US shouldn't be possible.

Straight reissues don't interest me, because I suck and have basically everything from Beast Wars on that was released in the US.
What I would be interested in though:
Beast Machines toys in show accurate decos
"Premium Series" type toys of anything and everything Armada/Energon/Cybertron

I probably wouldn't buy too many of them. I would be interested in some of the G2 stuff, but that's about it.

Re: Non-G1 reissues: Would you buy them?
Missed out on a lot of BW/BM stuff at the time as well, as I'd mostly given up buying the toys, despite babysitting some kids that had them and realising they were really pretty cool. Wasn't until I saw preview pics of God Magnus that I reconsidered buying toys again, and then started watching some BW cartoons and realised I wanted them all!
Would still like new toys of a lot of them but some of the toys can't be hugely improved except by spending ridiculous money and laughing in the face of toy safety laws, so bring on some reissues! I even missed out on the 10th anniversary sets because I wasn't shopping online at that point, and nowadays they're generally too expensive. I've be cool with some recolours as well, gimme some more unicorns!
Of course, rare, late G1 Japanese exclusives would get a lot of love from a lot of people. I'd rather some of the BWII and BW Neo stuff be reissued, like the crazy original Cybershark remould.

I dont really like G1 so yeah, I would. It depend what would be reissued.
Best bet would be a repaint line where they'll sell old toys but with better paintjobs. A little Beast Wars, some Unicron Trilogy, some RiD, some CHUG. Many size classes should be as well.
I got recently RiD Optimus Prime and Ultra Magnus. They are combined into Omega Prime. I wouldnt mind a better paint job for them.

It'd also be nice if it didn't have some of the other issues that were present with the initial release of the mold... such as the reversed electronics and the dreaded rubber tire splitting issue. Hell, it'd be great if they did new voice clips with the actual RiD dub actors.

The batteries in my toys were removed so I did not enjoyed any sound clips. However, I'm really REALLY lucky that both Ultra Magnus and Optimus Prime have all their tires and none are split.
Oh yeah, I wouldnt mind some reissue of toys with the GPS problem fixed. Like Transmetal Megatron. Also, some Beast Machines with paint that wont flake-off.

It would be a case by case kind of thing for me. There are some amazing figures to have come from the franchise over the years. Some characters who haven't really gotten the spotlight until well past their availability. I loved the initial iteration of Universe for celebrating some of those in some admittedly wild color schemes. Universe Optimus Primal is still one of my all time favorite figures. Not everything was a winner but I did buy quite a few releases from that line. There was some great stuff there. I wouldn't mind something similar if not straight reissues.
