So I start by recognizing that G2 is kind of a hazy era of the fiction, being unsupported by hardly anything except bios, a dozen issues of a Marvel book, some manga, and Fun Pub comics. Oh, yeah, and I think an IDW issue set in the far future where G2 emblems are in use.
But I'm thinking what would go well on my G2 shelves
Toy bios (including the Fun Pub ones) seem to suggest that G2 Megs and crew are a post-Rebirth era bunch. The Fun Pub comics adopted the new characters but left the more established characters largely untouched aside from Bumblebee taking on his G2 deco and a few characters adopting Machine Wars decos. Marvel took place in a setting years before Megatron became Galvatron and I'm not sure that G1 Megs ever would. Regen One adopted a few G2-ish elements.
But I guess I'm looking for general opinions on where some of the big characters would tend to wind up in a latter day G1 era. I'm thinking about expanding into "final pre-Armada trilogy reboot form" versions of classic characters.
I've got TFCC Starscream coming in the mail and I thought about who to pair him with because I like Starscream to have two seekers as support. Unless they do an ATB Starscream, that or Black Starscream are pretty much the final form of Starscream in G2 era.
I'd considered trying to get Machine Wars Redux seekers but the movie designs aren't my bag, Action Master Thundercracker (but then there's no Skywarp)... And I'm leaning towards Scourge and Cyclonus. I get that Skywarp may be part of Cyclonus's armada but he'd look the same, regardless. Thundercracker... Depending on the source, I guess he'd be:
- Scourge (Sporting G2 insignia, maybe?)
- Action Master Thundercracker
- Standard Classics Thundercracker (Maybe with G2 Insignia to match Starscream?)
I'm leaning towards going with Cyclonus and Scourge with G2 decals applied.
It's all whatever your head canon is anyway, I guess. I'd just like a Thundercracker and Skywarp to back up G2 Starscream and I thought I'd see what ideas you guys have about what would qualify.

Action Master Thundercracker for G2 Thundercracker, for sure. Skywarp gets a bit tricky, but the purple Botcon Rainmaker might work out pretty cool there.
For Cyclonus, SG Cyclonus with a G2 sticker takes care of that. On Scourge, maybe one of the teal "Sweeps" from the Botcon 2009 sets to give it at least a bit of gaudy coloration
Like you said though, it's whatever makes you happy. Any repurposing you do is ok when you're just having fun with your Transformers!

I was also thinking the unreleased G2 decos could be repurposed.
G2 Dirge, maybe =
Cloud Camo Skywarp: http://tfwiki.net/wiki/Ramjet_(G1)#Notes
Or maybe if you're getting revisionist, a sky deco Skywarp and Rainforest camo deco Thundercracker, based on but not exactly beholden to the unreleased designs.
I didn't think about these until you mentioned repurposings:

We technically don't know the leg, head, or hand colors of the jungle deco one.
Maybe an Acidstorm with G2 Repros and some neon from KOs. Kinda sucks that the age of this mold is seemingly over because when they were cheap, you could do some interesting kitbashes with minimal paint.
Likewise, the jungle deco one could be Thundercracker, especially since the next Thundercracker we got was a camo deco from G2. I guess what I doubt is that G2 Skywarp would be purple at all. Optimus Prime and the early release Dinobots seemed like the only ones with color schemes intact.

I hope this isn't too dead to bump, but what about RID Wind Sheer? His base deco is black with purple, just like Skywarp, but he's also got some gaudy bright yellowish stripe details going on that would have sort of fit with g2.
