Problem with my PC's audio (Fixed!)

Whoops, wrong board

So I just got my computer back from being wiped, and I'm noticing a distinct lack of any sound. System sounds or otherwise.

Accessing the volume control makes the PC complain about having no audio mixer installed. Media Player complains of no sound device installed. As far as I know, the soundcard is in there, so I think it's just a matter of installing it. But, I don't know how to identify the card, how to install it, where to install it from or.. well anything..

Help?

Sounds like you need to install the motherboard drivers.

in windows go to start run type dxdiag This may help you in determining your sound card or give you more info about it. If this doesn't help open up the computer and write down everything you see on your sound card and go to http://driverguide.com That is the best place to find hard to find drivers and there are several ways to search for your driver. Registration is free.

Thanks guys. I managed to get the drivers from Dell. Had some more trouble after that but a good sharp kick sorted the thing out :D

Oh you have a brand name computer?

And you managed to fix it without going through support for weeks?

Lucky man.

I once had an issue with my internet not connecting to websites (yet MSN would still work). I went ahead and called the provider, explained the issue to the czech woman who basically sent me the other way, telling me to call another department, charged at £1 per minute, and it would last about 5 minutes.

I decided against it, and instead thought i'd just on/off the router. This worked.

Seriously, I'm not paying £5 for someone to tell me to unplug the router for a couple of seconds, sheesh.

I'm having a similar problem with another forum. It simply won't load even though the rest of the net connects for me. I even had someone else check the site for me and it loaded for them!

Turning the modem router off didn't work, but logging directly into it, manually disconnecting and reconnecting the net connection fixed it up.

Now I COULD have called my ISP, but the last time I did that was in regards to their newsgroup server and they didn't even know what a newsgroup server was and that they even had one.

So yeah ... i'll fix my own problems and avoid calling my ISP's support as much as possible.
