Quality of Titanium figures.

Postby Vega » Thu Jun 14, 2007 3:47 pm

How is the quality of Titanium figures? I have heard that the paint chips easily and that their joints are floppy, but Soundwave and Scourge look totally awesome. Are the quality issues enough to make the figures not worth buying?

I have heard that Jetfire can't stand worth a poop, and I don't like that parts of him have to come off just to transform him. Soundwave seems nice. Scourge is really neat in vehicle mode. Transformation is simply, but nice. Head and upper body looks too simplistic, but it's cool.

I want Starscream and Thundercracker. Those seem like one of the better Titanium 6 inch ones. There seems to be 2 versions of Megatron. Don't know which is the better one.

The thing I like most is that they all come with stands, with plaques with their affiliation (Autobot or Decepticon), and name on them. They seem more like display pieces than something to be played with by kids.

Titaniums are a very special line. While some are completely disastrous others are almost works of art. From what I have:

Megatron. GiJoe version. He looks really cool posed. But look at him wrong, and he falls apart. Its not that he's very loose, its more that the die cast parts are to heavy for the plastic Joints. If you can avoid him, please do. he looks good, but is not worth the floppiness, and come-apart-ness.

BeastMachines Optimal Optimus. Very Sturdy Figure. Looks real good. His alt modes aren't that good. but the robot mode is all i wanted him for.

Thundercracker. He is outstanding. he is tight. he looks great. No floppiness, or other major flaw. He is one of the best in the line.

Rodimus Prime: Also looks amazing. No loose joints or floppiness. Very cool figure. The only down side is the big gaping hole in his chest. but Posed he looks awesome. The Transformation is really good. And he has a Gun.

These aren't really kids toys there are more collectors items that can be transformed. I have yet to find any paint chippings on mine, but I transform them very carefully.

The Display bases are gray plastic with a little detail, but the little plaques are a very nice touch.

The Soundwave I picked up is pretty sturdy, but his right leg won't collapse all the way while transforming, causing his right 'speaker' to be something like 1/4 of an inch higher, I think. It's off enough to be quite noticeable at any rate.

I also grabbed Starscream. He's top heavy and topples over without notice unless he's supported (I achieve this by using his name plaque as a brace of sorts) and his arms are a little loose, but still worth it.

WWI Optimus Prime & Ultra Magnus are pretty good in Robot Mode, but transforming is horrible. And in Vehicle mode not all of the 6 wheels touch the ground.

WWi Optimus is a great figure; he looks fantastic in both modes, but he does tend to fall apart very easily, and Mine had paint chip issues when I was releasing him from his twist tie prison.

I would have more Titaniums, Scourge and Optimal are meant to be two of the best figures in the line, but they did not get a full store release in Australia.

If you do get Titaniums, play nice with them, just incase you do get a dodgy one with paint chips and loose limbs.

I try to be gentle with all of my Transformers, so no problem there. If I get one that is banged up right out of the box, I will simply return it to the store.

Wow, that just reminded me of the Titanium packaging. It took a solid half-an-hour to break optimus free from that packaging. It was the worst experience I had with twist-ties. Ah.. bad memories..

The ones I have are:

Scourge: A work of art. Very simple to transform, great detailing, great design, just pure awesomeness.

Starscream: Same as above. Has no looseness/fall apart issues whatsoever.

Rodimus Prime: Same as above.

Jetfire: Same as above. Limbs DO NOT fall off. LOVES to STAND for WEEKS on end.

DiaperWav--I mean Sound Wave: Utter poo. Just trash. He is only useful for nostalgia. If not for that, he would be asbad as purple GI Joe Megatron, which I avoid like the hate plague.

That is why I love Korean boxed and Takara Tomy Boxed transformers, no messy twisters, just molded plastic trays with plastic tops to them inside the boxes!!!

I wish they rereleased titaniums in all plastic and made them available under the robot Masters name, but for the US, and came with a DVD.. that would be cool, plus they could import the Japanese versions as well, or better yet, sell it under the Transformers Universe Brand..

anyways, they have great molds to the titaniums, but the diecast makes them flimsy or hard to keep transformed.. some molds are just not suited for diecast, so I say rerelease them all in plastic and go from there...

But, I should like to get my hands on the Titanium optimal Optimus, is he a good buy???

He's the biggest turd in the line.

I don't know why anyone would want him when the glorious original Optimal Optimus exists.

Weapon: Sword
Scourge = Awesome. Great replacement for the G1 figure. Nice paint, tight joints.

Starcream, Thundercracker, Sunstorm = Awesome. The heads are a bit small, but these are great figures.

WWI Prime & Magnus = Very good. Nice paint on Magnus, Prime tends to scrape easily. A little floppy, but not too bad.

WWI Megatron = Good. Nice paint, just not a very poseable figure. Joints a little loose.

Jetfire = Good. A little flimsy but mine stands up well. Paint wears easily.

Rodimus = Awesome. The only shortcoming is his limit to the 6" size. He should be taller.

RID Prime = Great figure, just feels out of place with my mostly War Within collection.

The Fallen. I saved the best for last. My personal favorite. Unique and well designed character. Looks menacing in bot mode. Perfect paint; love the flat black paint and flames.

Figures to avoid: Soundwave and GIJoe Megatron. Terrible. Don't bother.

I don't have the G1 Magnus figure, so no comment.

Actually Optimal Optimus is Pretty good in Robot mode, hi solid, has tight joints. The Transformation is very simple. but hey what can you expect. So his Vehicle modes aren't that great. I like him. So he's a good replacement piece if you don't have the original. If you do there really is no need to get him.

The Turd of the line has to be Megatron. The Looks is good. and all. But the floppiness is just awful.

I only have Tit Rodimus and Soundwave and Rodimus is a work of art. Great transformation and well detailed and looks awesome in bot mode. Soundwave looks good in tape deck mode and cool in bot mode but he has no poseability thanks to some loose leg joints that fold down on themselves under his own weight unfortunateley.

So basically like many people have already said, some are great, some arent so great but still cool, some just suck.

Choose carefully and look up reviews before you buy. I can guarantee that Rodimus Prime is a must buy though so if you see him pick him up as he's rare. Along with G1 Magnus, he's ultra rare but is an awesome toy.

He may be rare, but I wish my brother did not buy him.
I mean he came home with him and I was like wow Magnus cool.
My brother unpaked him, looked at him and put him next to diperwave.
Then I had a good look at him, the colors are a bit light, the head is to for front and the arms waaaaaaaaaaay to wide at the back.
Hi's got now knes, his arms fall of as soon as you move them.
Overall a good idea how he transforms, good detail but he still gets 2 stars out of 5.
Man they could have made him better.

I disagree. Ive been wanting him for ages and looked at every pic there is of him and i think he looks awesome, especially considering the fact that the only other G1 magnus toy there is is the actual G1 original, which looks like ass.

Well you shuld blame Dream Wave to making Magnus geting rid of his armor. So Hasbro just repaints Prime into Magnus.
On pics he looks good but up close you'll see wat's wrong with him.
Wich is a shame cos a more show acurat Magnus would be real cool.

I believe Sonray is talking about G1 Ultra Magnus. There's 2 Ultra Magnus's and I believe Dead Metal, you're talking about the War Within Ultra Magnus that unfortunately is the bad one of the two.

Hep, you move them a bit to fast the balljoint pops out, the my brother's Magnus can use his right arm as a self-disconecting spining wepen, that's how floppy it has become from transforming 6 imes and posing it 8 times!
But the gun is cool.
Shuld I make a revuie with pics of it?

Yea the G1 Magnus is very weak. The arms pop out, the shoulder guns hang on by a thread and there is zero stiffness in the legs. Good thing he has big feet and a solid stance, but even with that he likes to tip backwards. Also his vehicle mode is a little dissappointing, the wheels on the bottom of the trailer don't line up on the same level, and the cab doesn't flip up and firmly close up the gap (although that may be intentional to seperate it from the trailer part.)

The look is what i wanted, and fits great with the classics line, but you can't play with him or even pose him. I got him at retail 15$ so it works for me, but I would have a REALLY hard time paying 30+ for him after playing with him.

Likewise for scourge. His natural stance is wide, and you can't pull his legs in closer because of the features on the back of them. But with this wide stance means he is prone to pulling splits, and because the feet are set up to be vertical, he has a hard time gripping and standing on his own. Not to mention zero stiffness or ratchet-ness in his legs. The wings are floppy too, and he has a tendency to tip backwards... and you have no way to bias him forward because of the leg issues. I ended up proping him up next to Classics dirge and he will just be a display peice.

oh well, at least his vehicle mode is bad ass. Needless to say the attractiveness for anything beyond these 2 figures in the series has dissappeared.

This happens with every TF toy though. My Binaltech Jazz figure's right arm pops out at the slightest breeze.
