Repaints get a bad rap but I can't wait for Evac.

Ok. I don't get it, Why are so many people upset to see repaints? I hear people complain all the time about Hasbro just trying to get more money out of us. The new evac for example, is sooo cool. He's Blackout repainted to look like a Coast Guard Heli. And the neatest thing is He has a dingy on board instead of Scorponok. I can't wait to get my hands on him. There are others though that shrug figures like him just because their repaints. IMO, I think that its neat to see what other characters might look like in a different series, i.e. Evac, movie style. What are your opinions?

Personally I'd prefer original figures over repaints, but I know Hasbro needs to milk those molds for all they are worth. And some repaints are better than the original, so it evens out at some point.

there are so many good repaints and often they are better than the originals. sometimes you'll see a toy and can already see the perfect repaint for it. i know that as many new molds to choose from is better, but then, even G1 had tons of repaints. heck, half the autobot cars were all repaints of each other, and of course, no repaints would have meant we'd never had the cool seeker trios.
assembling a Neo-G1/TF:TM cast. Please PM if you have (or know of) the following at a reasonable price: Classics or Henkei Astrotrain, Sunstreaker, Sideswipe, or 3rd Party iGear Ratchet and Ironhide.
Also looking for Universe Repugnus and Overbite, Frostbite and Longhorn and any Webdiver toys.

Motto: "No Good Deed Goes Unpunished"
Weapon: Dark Saber Sword
He's a repaint that I actually prefer to the original. His colors I think match up pretty well for what his alt mode is supposed to represent. He'll be my 2nd or 3rd movie line toy. Still looking for 08 BB.

I find all movie repaints terrible. They just don't work.

I think it depends what the repaint is. Personally, to me, Cyberton hardtop is a repaint of Cybertron Swindle.
Some molds just fit certain paint schemes and characters better.

Yeah, it just depends on the figure. Sometimes I'll buy a figure because it's so cool, then later the repaint is released and it's even cooler, so I'll end up having to buy that one too.

Other times, a repaint is what convinces me to buy something, like G1-repainted Movie Jazz, for example.

I think he's great, finally a repaint that isn't just another stupid G1-homage. I like the fact that they gave him a new head sculpt and replaced Scorponok with that boat, and the new colours look great.

It's a shame the mold sucks, and is only slightly larger than a Deluxe figure, nowhere near the 30$ Canadian price tag, despite the great new paint job.

Price tag is not always about size. Blackout has 2 major gimmicks (automorph + spinning rotor) that requires a lot of moving parts. Not even mentionning that the thing has to transform into an articulated figure and also has to interact with another figure (Scorponok). There goes your money.

Well there are some occasions I totally disagree with a repaint. (cough) Nightwatch Optimus Prime (cough)

G1 is no excuse for repaints. The issue we all have with repaints is when they are baseless, like Evac.

There is no such character in the movie. WTF would I want a repaint of Blackout as Evac for? The seekers or autobot cars had individual charaters associated with each repaint and had characters in the series. That is fine with me.

G1 colored jazz or SS??? Waste of time imo. This is no longer G1. The movie made that clear. Lets just keep the color checmes to be movie accurate. Make enough of those so that we can all find them. Screw the repaints and lets get started on Classics 2.0

I like Evac, although I would prefer completely different character toys with completely different molds, or the same character with an entirely new mode and paint job i.e. a completely new Supreme Blackout or Megatron.
