Should the Mega SCF series be reinstated with additions to the line? Mega SCF VS Revoltech

Postby skywarp-2 » Sun Apr 29, 2007 11:31 pm

Ok..

So I was reorganizing my collection which is boxed quite neatly in rubbermaid containers in my attic, which are resealable and help guard from moisture and humidity damage, when i came accross the MEGA SCF in their neat little packaging, and I had been watching Transformers G-1 from the Rhino DVD release boxed sets..with my Daughter whom i get on the weekends..Episodes S.o.s. dinobots and the fire mountain, specifically..

I opened the Megatron and Optimus boxes and immediately posed and placed them soemwhere I could view them while watching the show..Then i noticed how much those simple little figures mirrored the G-1 show bots.. i was filled with joy knowing I had gotten a good representation of the cartoon bots..

I started to wonder what the SCF line would have been like had Takara continued with other bots and not concentrated on the Armada line.. and I was like damn.. I would have given anything to have a Hound, Ironhide, and a soundwave Mega SCF..So I am wondering, should Takara have continued the line, and though not as detailed and popular as the Masterpiece line, who would you have wanted them to create?

I own the Revoltech figures, and though they are superior in articulation they are much more Dreamwave stylized then the Mega SCF.. I am actually more prone to prefer the Mega SCF figures over the Revoltech simply for nostalgia and appearance..so my second question is, which in your view is better Revoltech or Mega SCF?

My third question is, should Takara rerelease and bring back the MEGA SCF toyline?

Here are some images of the line compare them with the Revoltech images in the seibertron gallery:

Optimus prime had 3 releases, Cartoon ver., Metallic Ver., And Battle Damaged Cartoon Ver.

Image

I own these 2, i missed out on the Battle Damaged and I'm loathing myself for it..!!

There was also a megatron, in cartoon, and Metallic release..I own the cartton ver., yet Sadly i missed out on the metallic Ver. i am so pissed at my self!!! i didn't have the resources i do now!!

And there was a rodimus Prime and Hot Rod figure as well.. and yep you guessed it, i missed those too!! I hate myself for it!!
Image
Image

there was also 2 from victory, which I own Star Saber, yet missed out on Victory Leo..ARGGGHHH!!! they combined to form Victory Saber!!

Last but not least, the ones i wanted the most.. the ones i keep kicking myself in the rear ovr and ovver and over again.. the Starscream and Skywarp MEGA SCF..ohhhh how I covet thee!!!

Now that you have seen those.. go to Seibertron gaallery and look at the revoltechs and tell me who is the better choice..

No joking, i'm going to get a beer and drink in my depression whilst i serf for some kind of ebay auction or obscure toy shop online where i can get these at a reasonable price...ARRRAGGHHH!!!! I can't believe how cool Starscream, Rodimus and Hotrod look!!! darn it!! i wish i had those bots!!

By the way know of anyone selling these??

I need:
Mega SCF Star Scream
MEga SCF Skywarp
Mega SCF Metallic Megatron
Mega SCF Hotrod
Mega SCF Rodimus Prime
Mega SCF Battle Damaged Prime

Victory Leo is ok, but I may get him if sold cheap..

I know I completely forgot about them until tonight when i was reorganizing, then when i saw those other bot images on the remy site, i was like holy Crap!!! I want , i want, i want!! darn it!! those little bots are like th ecoolest representations of the g-1 cartoon.. too bad they never released them n 6 inch scale, but oh well i'd be happy if they rereleased them and made iron Hide, ratchet, hound, trailbreaker, sunstreaker, sideswipe, soundwave and thunder cracker..imagine a brawn, windcharger, skyfire, shockwave, reflector, and kup.. whoa ultramagnus.. or arcee in Mega SCF, heck they did everyone else in the ACT series.. I'm so wishing...

Still anyone know where I can find the ones I'm missing?

If it's a battle of Mega SCF vs Revoltech, Revoltech wins hands down. It only lacks range, but I'm sure they'll make more Transformers in time. Here's hoping Soundwave is next!

I bought the Hot Rod one a few years ago, but it just seemed...kinda boring.

Hardly any detail, just felt wrong.

But then, I never buy statues/busts/figures that do not transform.

The only exception is a couple of Gundam mecha, but only because of their intense detail and design.

These? Just seem like Action Masters all over again.

Meh.

I ran into some of these while looking at Revoltechs and other TF stuff on HLJ today. They only have a couple of Armada ones left now, but they do look pretty cool.

I got Revoltech Megs just a couple of days ago and I'm very pleased with him.

Both Revoltech and Mega SCF are good in their own ways.
Mega SCF have very cartoony sort of proportions. They look quite cute and I like that, but the Revoltech are so well articulated and detailed.

I dislike the Revoltech Prime and Magnus because of their tiny chest-windows, so there's really only one Revoltech TF figure for me so far vs the 5 Mega SCF figures (Not counting variants) which all look great.

Although I like the look of the Mega SCF figures, I'm not too disappointed in missing out on them since the Robot Heroes figures are coming out soon and look to be even cuter!
Off the top of my head I remember seeing Prime, Ravage, Soundwave, Shockwave & Bumblebee from G1 plus a bunch of characters from other lines too.

So all up, I'm hoping we get a few more TF Revoltechs, especially Soundwave. I'd love a revoltech of him looking like he does on the classics reissue box.
And I'm really looking forward to those Robot Heroes and hoping they make a few waves of them with lots of G1 characters.

I love Mega SCF Hot Rod. Even though he doesn't transform, I never liked the original toy because it seemed too big in robot mode compared with Prowl, Jazz and the other Autobot cars. But Mega SCF Hot Rod fit's in nicely in robot mode with these guys.

Would have loved to have gotten Blurr, Kup, Arcee and Perceptor as Mega SCF's.

Sunstreaker, Ratchet, Ironhide and the anime Reflector trio would have been sweet. Even the likes of Streetwise and Drag Strip or Lightspeed and Sinnertwin.

The Mega SCF are what Actionmasters should have been.

In fact Banzai-tron, Axer and Kick Off would have made nice Mega SCFers too along with the Motorvator Assault Squad, Lightspeed, Gripper and Flame.

A lot of you will probably hate me for this but Armada Sideswipe might have gotten the respect he deserved as a Mega SCF.

But yes, would kill for Mega SCF G1 Blurr.

Though i agree with the opinion that the Mega SCF are in fact Cute, and not super detailed, I gotta say that I still love em.. I mean they are meant to represent the G-1 cartoon and not actual real life toys.. still they are betyter then robot heroes because their proportions are better and they can actually move.. I saw a teletran 1 that was being discussed that you could print out..it fits perfect into the MEGA SCF line in terms of size, plus the figures came with a cardboard cut out that looked like the control center of their individual bases..

Say what you want about the line, i still think it was done well.. I just wish they could reissue the bots that they did in the line for G-1.. the armada bots are still all over the web for sale and the Hotrod and Rodimus figures are as well.. but you can't find a Skywarp or Starscream anywhere..which is extremely frustrating and shows how hot those characters are..plus I know they were released in low numbers...

I saw an image of the boxed setss for Victory in the SCF figures whihc were the little statues with limited posability, whihc remind me of the Robot heroes line, just smaller..in that I saw Road Ceasor, dezaurus, Star Saber, Wheel Jack and perceptor.. and it dawned on me, wheeljack and Perceptor were like regulars on that series and it was cool to see that thye survived the war with unicron in the G-1 series and became pivotal to the Victory story line..

So I would want a Road ceasor, dezaurus and wheeljack and Perceptor figure done..but I agree i would also kill for a Blurr...and Ultra magnus..

Okay, I'm seeing a clear delineation between the articulated non-transforming, err, Transformers...

Action Masters:
Decent (Bumblebee) through Mediocre (Starscream) through HORRID (Thundercracker) overall appearance. Yes, it had articulation, but relatively limited, even for the time (especially shoulders and hips).

Mega SCF:
VERY cartoon accurate, nicely poseable. Looks a little simplistic, however, BECAUSE they are show accurate.

Revoltech:
Not so much cartoon accurate as Manga/Comics/Dreamwave boobage accurate. Extremely detailed and articulated. Probably the best of the lot so far, but the price shows it.

I only have a couple SCF's I got from BBTS clearance a couple years ago. One of 'em is Victroy Leo, and someday I will get Star Saber, cause he's my favorite Autobot commander.

The other, Armada Megatron, brings me to my next point: Did Tidal Wave ever get released? Megatron has a few pegs and holes that don't do anything, and they look like they were made for a Tidal Wave attachment.

I don't believe he got released but I'll certainly research it, at the very best I might come accross some protos of him..
