I wish Hasbro would retcon the toy versions as separate characters. Then, I'd buy them...

Personally, I look at them as alternate universe versions, specifically from the micro continuity formed by the early BW tech specs/comics. So, modern day setting, Optimus/Megatron being the G1 characters, all that.
