Sorry if this has been covered before - I did a search but nothing came up...
How does your wife/husband, girlfriend/boyfriend or partner feel about your fandom? Do they encourage it or just kinda let it slide and not question it?
My girlfriend thinks it's a bit silly for a 22 year old guy to still be collecting toys, but we're both pretty unconvetional people [both heavily tattooed metal fans - she's an apprentice tattooist and I am the 'singer' in a metal band] so we're open-minded to things that aren't 'normal' I guess. Plus she keeps on buying me them regardless! Just yesterday she got me Alternator Swindle for no real reason, and then a few weeks ago it was the Classics Dinobot Mini-cons just as a little present. She couldn't sit through the origial movie though, fell asleepabout halfwa through!
So yeah... how does your other half deal with your obsession?

My wife supports it whole-heartedly. In fact, she's encouraging me to buy some when I see some I like when she's with me shopping. I'm pretty hesitant otherwise, and just leave them alone (it's a Dutchie thing >.>)... She collects Barbies herself, so it works out

I don't understand the widows part but my husband simply roles his optics at me. He knows I enjoy them though.

Exactly what I meant yes

Although I'm not that bad really - my collection is still small [only about 30 figures, but growing all the time when my money situation allows - we're saving for a house right now so we're SUPPOSED to be being spendthrift!], but I've managed to coerce my girl into coming to London with me in July so I can see the premiere of the new movie and so we can spend a few days there sight-seeing n stuff. She's good.

She. Hates. It.
All of my purchases are covert and she even bugs me for coming to this site. I had to hide everything I kept and a lost most of my collection to buy the house. I slowly stash cash and save up, usually a dollar at a time, for all of my TF's.
And for all of you that want to pull that "Be honest with her" crap out on me, please don't.

My wife (of 14 years) loves it. She knew what she was getting into before we got married and did not have a problem with it.
She collects Wonder Woman items and those expensive Barbies.

Not a sheeple.
Think for yourself, don't let the magic TV box and social media do the thinking for you.
Question EVERYTHING!!
Just because you have a youtube review channel doesn't make you special.
I look forward to attending a Botcon soon only to settle matters with several idiots in person (yes this is a threat).

This comes up pretty frequently actually, but probably not since the board wipe.
My wife pretty much thinks it is cute, and even likes some of the toys and characters, though the only TF comic I think she's ever read is the Shockwave Spotlight, and as far as the cartoon, I can sometimes get her to watch episodes of Beast Wars focused on Rattrap but thats it.
But I think she's happy that it's always easy to find me presents for various occasions.
And also, pretty much all of my most expensive TFs are from her - The Japanese commemorative reissues Megatron, Soundwave, and Perceptor.
And she found, purchased, and gave me Classics Grimlock on our wedding day.
... Though I didn't get to open it until we got to the hotel, and then I didn't get to play with it until the next morning.
And --B--, I feel very sorry for you; it must get old having to hide part of who you are in front of the closest person in your life. But then, if it's not a big part of who you are, I suppose it isn't that bad.

Out of all of the geeky things that I do, comics, Warhammer, Star Wars, my wife understands Transformers the least. But she loves her geek, so I get support. In fact, she ordered me MP Megatron for Valentines day.
I make sure to keep her happy.

Nah, just a nice ass whooping will doSeems to me like she's the one being petty and unfair. What does she blow her money on?
She doesn't. She's been in "save every penny" mode for a couple of years.
It's not really that big of a deal since I have never really bought too much. I am a bit of a TF snob, and only purchase toys that I really like. I'm not one of those "buy the entire line just because they are there" kind of person.
Not that it's bad to do that, as many of you out there do, it's just not me.

I think why my husband supports mine is because I tell him to get what he wants and likes. Mostly bike stuff.

Don't be honest, just kick her ass to the curb.
My wife supports it, and she knows better than not to. I mean if you don't support things the other person likes, even if you don't like them you are doomed to have a marriage filled with arguements and problems, who needs that?
She should accept you for who you are and not what she expects you to be. Too many men in this day and age are pussy whipped by their wives and can't just stand up for themselves. It's a disgrace. If she doesn't like it, tell her to leave, there are plenty of girls and women out there who will, go find one of those.

That's kinda what I meant with the "Don't tell me to be honest" line People are people, and not everyone likes everything that their spouse likes.
We have been married a long time and have two kids, so honestly, a few toys are not a very good reason to get divorced and never see my kids again.

As I said above, I never said she had to like it, but she needs to accept it. It's part of who you are. As I said, more and more men seem just willing to bend over backwards for as simple piece of tail. I have friends here just like you. Married to a wife they love, some with children and not allowed to enjoy the things that make them happy simply because the wife doesn't approve. It's revolting. I tell them the same thing. People should be allowed to be happy.
I could see if you were wanting to be out at the tavern every night drinking with your buddies like it was with my dad when I was a kid, but you aren't. She has no right to complain. She should consider herself lucky to have you and shut up. I don't mean to offend you or anything, I really don't, but nothing irritates me more than to hear someone can't be the person they are to please a women.
A marriage is a 50-50 street, most people today pay too much attention TV and how families act there. (Everybody Loves Raymond is a perfect example). Husband is a total ass who needs wife to dress him, tell him what to do, how to act, etc... Yet he pays for the cost of living and supports his entire family while living in one of the most expensive cities in tthe world AS A WRITER!!!!! Tell me there isn't something wrong with a society like that?
My apologies for rambling. I just think you should put your foot down, grow a pair and tell her how it's going to be. If she really loves you, she'll have no problem with your being a Transformer fan. Not if she's a smart intelligent human being.

Wow, I didn't realize that you knew everything about me and my relationship with my wife, and about my apparent lack of testicles. You are so right, I need to put that woman in her place. As a matter of fact, what is she doing out of the kitchen in the first place? How dare her. And why should she complain, if I want to spend as much money as I want on TF's instead of buying diapers and groceries. She needs to shut her yap, right! And she certainly "should consider herself lucky to have you and shut up" because I am the most perfect man on the planet and have no faults what so ever and she must be quite the beast to even have a guy in the first place.
I may not be a marrige counseler, but I don't think anyone here in a "50-50 street" has ever told their significant other "how it's going to be" about anything. She has the right to complain on how I spend OUR money. I think that I'd have the right to complain if she went out and bought a pair of shoes each week with OUR money.
I'm not going to get in an argument, and I am not going to say something about most of what was written, but you should really not generalize someone's whole life on one statement written on a message board. I will not be responding to anything else here,so respond with whatever you like.
I don't think that this was meant to be a spouse bashing forum. My wife isn't stupid, she knows that I buy the occasional TF. That doesn't mean she wants to hear about the new classics coming out or if Alternators will come back after the movie line. I am super fan of hockey, but I don't talk to her about it all day every day, because she could care less.
Like I said, it's not worth getting divorced over a bunch of toys. Transformers are not my life. I like to think that I am the "person that I are" even without TF's covering my entire house.
I really liked how you made a statement like "I don't mean to offend you or anything" and following with telling me to "grow a pair".
Nice.
Note to the mods: I really do appologize for stooping to this level, but with statements like those, I felt really had to. Guess that's them new balls growing in. I do try to add positives to the site but understand that I may get something for this. At least I didn't curse!

No, but all this discussion really is on topic.
You brought up points and discussed your situation. Obviously you aren't going to leave your wife over the issue. Truth be told, relationship advice begotten from a toy website is going to be dubious anyway.
I don't really have an opinion one way or another on how your home life works. I also don't dispute your right to fire back after you get criticized.
But you can't add your opinion/experience to the discussion and say, "Hey, hands off now. I'm sensitive about this."
Everyone has problems. Me? I have 1001 problems. That's one more than Jay-Z. If I were going to post them on a public forum and open them up to public scrutiny (which I wouldn't. Listen, pimpn' ain't easy, but ya'll don't need that side of the story.

That's the name of the game my man.
