Transformer Classics, which ones are "must haves" based on looks??? Please chime in!!!!

Postby Kingplay » Sun Aug 12, 2007 12:29 am

Now guys, I know this is an awesome line, and most of you probably feel that five or more of them, if not all, are must haves...

But seriously now, which ones just stand out in the classics line?

So far I own Jetfire and I absolutely love it, no regrets of getting it at all. It is indeed a "must have"...

So besides Jetfire, who else would you consider a star amongst the classics line based on looks for display purposes.

And if none, just say none, that is cool too.
So far Jetfire seems like the only "must have" to me.
Perhaps its cause I never saw any of the rest opened yet

Thanks in advance,
Ed

P.S. The reason why I don't consider optimus prime a "must have" is cause you have Masterpiece Prime as well as Galaxy Convoy Prime as well as Omega Prime and even perhaps Movie Leader Prime who ALL blow him away imo :-?

But perhaps there is something extra special with Classics Optimus Prime that you can point out and change my mind ;;)

As for Jetfire, it seems like its the best rendition of him since the original Bandai version~

What about Starscream ? He's really great. He's really a great homage to the original. He's the only one I have at the moment, but really, go get him. Sure you have the MP version, but this one is quite affordable compared to the MP. I found mine at a toysrus, so you never know.

Mirage and Bumblebee are both great looking Classics figures.

Forgetting about the Minicons and Legends the whole line is worth getting. You asked what makes Prime a stand out, for me it's simply the fact that he isn't bloody huge. I just don't get why Prime and Megs constantly need to be done as leader class figures that tower over the deluxes that will make up the bulk of the troops in a line. Voyager is a perfect size for both characters, leader and supreme sized figures should be for bots that are meant to be powerhouses or would have huge alt modes. Supreme Starscream for instance only works because of him getting supersized in the show, without that reference he's a bit silly.

What to avoid though? It's tricky, they're all quality figs. Since you're not going completist you should probably miss out the deluxe Prime/Megs 2 pack. Megs isn't bad but the Prime really isn't one of my favourites. Voyager Megatron is a pretty cool mould but certainly displays better after getting the repaint treatment. If you're unable or unwilling to repaint him then again one that might be worth a miss, those bright colours do get to be a bit grating. If you go for Bumblebee then Cliffjumper's probably not needed unless you have a particular affinity to the character and most people don't like the Constructicons, but I always was quite partial to the Energon combiners anyway so I'm not in that category.

That would leave:

v Prime, BB, Mirage, Grimelock, Magnus/Skywarp, Screamer, Astrotrain and Ramjet. I can't bring myself to recommend anyone looking at Classics to not pick those up and it's only grudgingly that I've selected the ones in the miss category for the reasons stated above. Just my opinions, and I'm a big fan of the line so I'm biased anyway.

I agree completely with Waaaaghlord. I don't bother with the Minicons or legends either, and I don't yet have Grimlock, Ramjet or Astrotrain, but every other fig just kicks arse, and if you're willing to make some mods and/or do a bit of repainting, they're even better.

Oh I've got all of the Minicons and Legends from the line, it's just that I don't count them as Classics. Since they're unreleased and recoloured (respectively) Cybertron toys they go on the Cybertron shelf instead.

Personally, I don't think Astrotrain or Grimlock are very nice looking, but hey-ho.

A repainted Astrotrain is damn nice. I agree though, the released untouched version looks a bit weak. If you are gonna repaint him, get Astrotrain. But only if you are gonna repaint him. I also second the BB vote.

I was rather disapointed with starscream and astrotrain, both looked very toyish compaired to the VERY detailed Hotrod and and just plain great Bumblebee. Neither had a good paint job, and Im not sure the seeker design is as good as they could have done (if they had just done a more detailed, slightly larger RM seeker with knees, I'd have been a lot happier).

Id actully recomend deluxe prime, his alt mode may be pants, but I love his robot mode, VERY G1, Very poasable, and it just looks right to me. If it wasnt for his stupid arm, I'd probably recomend deluxe Megs too.

All 3 Voyagers are well worth owning.

Sadly, that's where my knoladge ends. Im still waiting for hasblo UK to sell any later toys.

I just bought Prime yesterday and really like him. I've got Grimlock and Rodimus and I think Prime is my favorite of the trio. Rodimus is cool enough. Grimlock looks great in dino mode but pretty mediocre in robomode. His robot feet suck so he stays in dinomode.

The Walmart I bought Prime from has about 5 left and 14 Devastators. Leads me to believe that the latter isn't very popular.

Id actully like Hasblo UK to do Devastator. I missed all the Energon combiners (didnt get back into tfs until after energon) and my classics cons need some heavy back up.

Well, you got Jetfire, so you definitely have the pinnacle (IMO) of this line thus far, but don't count out Voyager Prime just yet. While I may think that Jetfire just slightly edges him out as "best Classics figure", this incarnation of Optimus Prime is my favorite version of the character in all of my years of collecting (since G1 baby!) and may just be my favorite TF of all time!! A terrific homage to the G1 version, updated with today's articulation and styling, armed to the teeth with awesome (transformable) weaponry...just a badass Autobot leader. I highly reccommend him.

Bumblebee was the first Classics fig I got and he rounds out my top 3. Another great nod to his G1 self, but light-years cooler. Would've been nice had he come with his own weapon, but the wave-runner accessory makes sense for the character.

I have all the Classics figures now (no minicons or legends), except for the Ultra Magnus vs. Skywarp pack (grrr...ebay here i come) and the deluxe versions of Prime vs. Megs, and I absolutely love these figures. All of them. Some more than others, sure, but I'm glad I've almost completed the collection. I like the Devastator figure in combined mode, towering over the others. He just looks like a good muscle-bot, standing behind Megatron (who just barely missed my top 3, awesome figure).

I say you hunt them all down man. I don't think you'll regret it at all!!

Hot Rod is pretty cool. Mine seems to have slightly loose joints, though. Not sure if this is a common problem or not, but yeah, go ahead and get him cuz he's certainly a sweet toy!

I love most of the Classics I have, but I'm not big on Mirage or Astrotrain. I've also got Bumblebee, Optimus Prime, Megatron, Starscream, and Ramjet. The jets are by far my favorite, Megatron is pretty cool, Bumblebee is interesting and probably the easiest to transform, and I like Optimus Prime except for the extra baggage he has on his arms in robot mode.

I only got 4 Classics my self, them being Optimus Prime, Starscream, Ramjet, and Astrotrain. I love them all myself, though I'm not really a big fan of Prime's vehicle mode, by his robot mode is just so bloody awesome. If you are a fan of the G1 Seekers I would also recommend Starscream and Ramjet, although I know many people are not really a fan of him I also like AStrotrain.

I've been trying to track down Bumblebee and Megatron, but the local Toys R Us and other toy stores have not been restocked in TF figs in a few weeks. SO when they do get restocked looks like my bank accoutn may take a hit!

Mine is too. Right in the hip area. I have to stand him up just right or he assumes the prison position.

I particularly like the Magnus, Skywarp 2 pack. They are both rally good looking figs. Skywarp has a better paint job than Starscream and i think the mould suits Magnus more than Prime.

Rodimus is nice. My Mirage is a little loose. but looks good in alt mode. But hi nose/gun keeps falling off. Grimlcok as has been said by some here, looks great in Dino mode. but his Robot mode is quite lacking.

I found the Magnus paint job was almost as poor as Skywarp was excelent.

Now that I have a few more of these Classics figures I'd say that Skywarp or Starscream are must haves. Personally I like Skywarp much better, his paint apps are excellent. After that I'd say Prime since he looks great in robot mode and then Bumblebee. The rest are nice figures but not totally necessary.

1- Jetfire

2- Bumblebee

3- Ramjet

4- Mirage

5-Skywarp

6- Starscream

6- Rodimus

7- Grimlock

Recent botcon exclusives but they are really pricy
Better wait to see if Takara Tomy releases them as a set later

1- Thundercracker

2- Thrust

3- Dirge

The upcoming classics next year

1- Octane

2- Sideswipe {Sunstreaker is going to have the same body as Sideswipe but different face. Argh! Hasbro didn't keep their promise. And they said Sunstreaker would have different transformation but it doesn't seem that way judging by the botcon pics.

3- Cosmos

Is Cosmos a definite for the Universe line? Thought so far only Sideswipe, Sunstreaker and Octane were confirmed.
