Transformers Movie To Potentially Open with 940 Screenings in the UK
UK based fans site Transformers @ the moon reports that for the UK opening this week of the Michael Bay Transformers Movie, 940 prints of the movie has been made available. Which could mean that the movie could potentially be release in just as many theaters at one time.

Thats alot of cinema screens.
But I doubt each cinema would have only one copy, usually they have their main copy, then get a second as a backup.

Awesomesauce; Use it, you know you want to.

God its been a looooooong wait. And I suck at avoiding spoilers too, which hasn't helped. I have no doubt that a change of underwear will be in order afterwards though, so it'll all be worthwhile.
Been waiting for this since i was 3 dammit!!!

The media in Britain have gone Simpsons mad. There are features in every tabloid newspaper. I will be amazed if TF out-grosses Simpsons in the UK.

I went to the previews last weekend too, & I've seen in total, ONE movie poster. I've heard people talking about TV adverts but I haven't seen any... I agree with Kendragon, The UK advertising for Transformers SUCKS!
Though it was a great film ^^

In all fairness i've seen ads for he film every day this week, but the simpsons does seem to be winning the ad war.
There's still a huge buzz about it though, which i think is more pleasing - virtually everyone I know is very, very excited about it, and only one of my friends is particularly keen on transformers.
Interestingly, it seems like creative types are especially excited about TFs - most of my circle of friends are in bands or do something artistic and they're absolutely wetting themselves about the film...

Simpsons? Bayformers?

QFT. But don't count it out just yet. I am sure it will be a..."smashing" success, as our friends across the pond would say.
Expect Transformers to do well, regardless of Homer & Co.

Please can no-one buy the Times today as the paper has purposly given the Transformers movie 1/5 and The Simpsons Movie 4/5. The review is just pure rubbish to put people off.

Yeah now that you mention simpsons... when i went to see the transformers preview in they Foyer(sp?) they had a seriously impressive full size 3d simpsons diorama of the whole family from the start of the cartoon.... i remember thinking that it was pretty awesome how much like the cartoon it looked even though it was in 3 dimensions... so why isnt there a single poster for a film that's made over 400million dollars in what, 3 weeks?
In japan they were given free bumblebee toys with the tickets for pitys sake.

Just got back from the movie. Worth the wait. The cinema was plastered with tf posters inside and out. Though there was a lifesize Simpsons couch in the main area with all 5 on it.

After I heard there was a 1 star review of the film at the Times, I just had to check. And here it is:
http://entertainment.timesonline.co.uk/tol/arts_and_entertainment/film/film_reviews/article2139087.ece
At first, I was content with letting the reviewer have their negative opinion...until I saw the hatred behind the review. (And yes, it clearly is hatred)
Not just for the source material, not just for the movie and it's cast, but the derogatory remarks about the fans as well.
I have no problem with someone not liking the movie. That's their right, they're entitled to it.
My problem is... when you become this vicious and disrespectful, my care for anyone's opinion has flown out the window. This..."person" can go f*ck themselves. Like...yesterday.

well giving the irish point of view the posters are all over the bus shelters and several of the adds have been on telly and theres some big cardbord displays in the cinema but as mentioned theres also the simpsons diaorama taking up most of the space.
that said im not sure if the simpsons will out do transformers. on the surface you'd expect it too but its not getting a good write up form people thatve actually gone to see it. its alright but apparently goes down hill after the first 30min to be just "meh".
the interesting thing is most of the radio and newspapers are heavily covering the simpsons movie with interviews with mike scully and groening and a lagrer column in the reviews section and only gives a cursory account of transformers, albeit with a huge thumbs up i havent actually read a bad review of it in the press. the fun thing is while the radio presenters clearly dont get it or have any real interest in it every time its mentioned the texts lines go mental. methinks the media is backing the wrong horse and are gonna be completly lost when it wipes the floor with homer.
dont get me wrong . i like the simpsons and will probably go see the film in the next week or two but i am going to see transformers again on monday with one of me best mates despite the fact i have it on pirate and seen it at the previews last week. its that good. plus as homer himself says in the simpsons movie "why should i pay money to see something i can see for free at home!". in that context thirty foot robots hanging off a jet and flying through a building looks a lot more attractive. your just not going to see anything like transformers anywhere else this year whereas the plot of the simpsons movie is basically akin to a few of the old series episodes rolled together. theres alot in the adds that looks naggingly familiar.
i guess if i was to be suscint the simpsons are winning the spin war here but i think transformers will take the box office as theres much more of an underground buzz around it from people that will actually part with cash to see it as opposed to critics who get a free screening. and hell it wouldnt be the first time the critics got it wrong
PS thought you'd like to know theyre going nuts with the film in my home town. first show starts at 6.15am and the last is at 3am with shows practically every hours. thats just insane ! ive never seen anything like that. ok theyre doing it with the simpsons movie too to make it a big head to head but still

Enjoy the TF movie fans in the UK and HK! It will feel like Christmas in July.

Longs for the days of G1 where we only had to worry about Megatron, Soundwave and Laserbeak wanting to be Autobots, Swoop calling himself Tracks and Slingshot calling himself Slingslot!

Far from perfect but a bloody great bit of entertainment.
This is what I'm talking about. You get it! You had fun! That's what this was all about. To introduce us to the characters and for us to have fun.
And they achieved both.
