What do you think of Transformers Build-A-Bot sets?

I was just thinking, what if in the Universe line they had a similar gimmick that was used in the Marvel Legends and BW 10th lines? In which each figure comes with a part of another figure and by collecting all the figures in a given wave you can build the bonus figure. What kind of characters would you like to see as Build-A-Bot figures?

I was thinking Nightbird would be great. She's the same size as the other bots, but she doesn't transform so that would not be a problem. As I imagine it would be very difficult if a figure not only had to be easily assembled, but also have the ability to transform. I can't think of any, other than gestalts.

But that would be interesting gimmick as well. Kind of like back in Armada where every figure came with his own minicon, but this time around they all combine together like the Micromasters Sixwing, Sixbuilder, Sixtrain, etc.

A part of a combiner that comes with the regular figure. The only thing is, we'll all be forced to buy all the figures that we don't want just so we can get the Build-a-Bot and that the parts we have won't go to waste.

The build-a-figure concept has done wonders for other lines. However, the problem with applying it to Transformers might be that the TF releases tend to be cluttered and hard to follow.

it's already been done. the Beast Wars 10th Anniversary line of 6 figures came each with a part that combined into a bonus robot: Transmutate.

Yeah, I mentioned that. I'd like to see it implimented again.

But if it's the new Universe line(aka Classics 2.0) would you really mind? It seems like every figure in Classics was gold. So whether they included them with the new figures like Sideswipe, Sunstreaker, and Octane, or with the old figures as a smart way of re-releasing them, I wouldn't mind picking all of them up to get a nice unique figure. Heck I already had half of the BW 10th but I got them all b/c I wanted Transmutate.

oh yeah, sorry about that. was still sleepy when i read your post, oh well.

that's a cool idea though, and i think it would make deluxe toys a worthwhile buy. imagine for every six or so figures you purchase, you get one leader-class figure for free. 8)

I say they use this to finally release a G1 Alpha Quintesson. Each pice could be one of its faces and then the final piece would be the tentacles.

Good point. If the line was good as Classics, I'll probably get all the figures anyway.

How about the enclosed parts can be assembled into a mini-statue that would in scale to the line? Hasbro is doing it with their Marvel Legends line.

I like it!! Next wave of Classics would come with an extra bot that can make Bruticus. That would be great.

small

Postby Jestermon » Mon Sep 17, 2007 10:44 pm

I think you guys are thinking small, they need to make Metroplex, or Omega Supreme, or Combiners, that are static statues, it would be better to get a super detailed updated static combiner then none at all.
