Where did automorph start

Postby shortround » Wed Jul 25, 2007 12:09 am

I have heard rumor floating around that the automorph gimick goes back as far as transformer beast war or one of it many spin offs. I hope somone can answer where it got it start.

Motto: "I'd reach for the stars but I can't find my arms."
Weapon: Blue Bolt
I guess the "Quick Attack Transforming Action" gimmick could be considered a sort of primitive form of Automorph. It was only used in the first series of Beast Wars and Machine Wars Basics. I can only guess that's the origin of the rumors you've heard but I doubt they're directly linked.

Weapon: Sword
The first automorph figures I remember are G1 Topspin and Twintwist, as well as the G1 throttlebots.

1984 G1 Hound!

When you twist his front wheels back, at their base is a shaped piece to push the arms out.

I that's not automorph I don't know what is.
