Will we see a G2 reissue line?

Will we see a G2 reissue line?

Postby Craven Knight » Fri Jun 22, 2007 12:23 am

So I picked up a boxed G2 Megatron(yes the aweful green & purple tank/brick) the other day and it got me thinking as to why the Generation 2 toy line hasn't been given any attention even though it's successor Beast Wars has.

I know that 89.5% of G2 was rainbow coloured garbage but it did have some real gems, like Clench - I'd kill to get that guy, Dreadwing & Smokescreen too plus groups like the skyscorchers, techno jets & rotor force.

Do you think that Hasbro would ever do a G2 reissue line or is G2 doomed never to get any love?

No love for G2.

Correction: No love for G2 but they'll spread the line around so it touchs every other line. RiD and Universe in the States but also Beast Wars II in Japan. Just no radioactive colors. They went out like Captain Planet and his mullet.

I grew up watching Captain Planet and his mullet and I turned out okay... pretty much.

I've always been a villain fan and I still get a little thrill out of litering because of that show. I still remember pointing out that the chemicals used in his color changing plastic has toxic byproducts and the sparking Wheeler was technically a disposable figure. Once the flint was used up you were supposed to throw it out and buy a new one. Counter active products and mixed messeges rule!

We still need Hasbro and Takara to finish reissuing all of the G1 characters that we have been demanding.

Hell yes, let's get those first!

BTW...I had Dreadwing (B-2 bomber), he was pretty sick, aside from the lame BRIGHT teal blue and red coloring. Very cool design and transformation.

But yeah, I have next to no love for G2.

Weapon: Reciprocating Laser Cannon
There were some reissues, like Battle Convoy (Laser Optimus Prime), it is the G2's best figure (it is still available at BBTS).

Ahh right! They were called Cyberjets, I called them technojets for some reason... they were sweet.

But yeah, I think that the G1 stuff that hasn't been done needs to come first, for God's sake reissue the Dinobots.

And Wheeljack, Cyclonus, Sunstreaker... and Springer...

Some pretty nice moulds did come out of G2, some of which have been re-used, some haven't. We've seen redecos of Sureshot and Archforce, the Lasercycles, Cyberjets, Prime and Stealth Assault. But the Laser Rods/Illuminators were pretty tasty too, with plenty of articulation and unique retro alt-modes.

I've got a 100% complete G2 Bruticus. Pretty nice toy. However the bright colors....whoa....thats the reason they likely won't ever be reissued other than Megatron or Prime...lol.

I have the RiD version of those guys, olive green & grey with red transparent parts. Robot Masters also has the blue & yellow versions. I recommend either, if you can find them. Same figures, way better colors. A lot of G2 figures have been redone in other lines, and the lack of neon can only be good.

G2

Postby Autobot Skids » Fri Jun 22, 2007 12:14 pm

Hmm...

Here's the thing with G2....

I loved the comics - but really it was because of the G1 characters being put into that unique story... now... you do NOT need the G2 toy Prime or G2 Jazz with the hole in the roof and silly 1 to feel like you have a G2 collection...

So there's no demand for a G2 collection because it's really just G1 - and no one prefers rainbow colors ... they weren't even in the comics...

As for the original molds - except for the rotor-force and illuminators - the whole rest of them ended up with great characterizations in BW2 - and I for one would love and prefer for example to have Megastorm rather than G2 Megatron, or SS and BB rather than Stealth Bomber....

So there's little to no point in explicitly reissuing G2 characters....

I love G2 and am lucky enough to have most of them. Would have loved to see more seekers. If they did reissue the Cyberjets, I'd like them to alter the scale and make them larger like the KO RM Jetfire.

Love the G2 conics, pity they were shortlived. Plus they didn't reboot the continuity, they continued on from the magnificent Marvel G1 comics. Even Beast Wars and Universe acknowledged the Swarm and that continuity.

Would love to see Sizzle the grey Laserrod repainted as Armada Red Alert but with an old police car style and a little beacon on top.

Repaint Rapid Run as Actionmaster Rad, the Rotor Force dragster as Slapdash and the colour changer dune buggy as Joyride.

The only thing I'd want to see would be a seriously bad@$$ 'remake' of Tank Megatron. He was really the only thing I liked about G2 in the comic.
I know that Classics made that one for the 2pack, but its small size didn't do Megs justice. I'd like to see it in the scale closer to Classics Optimus or Jetfire, but most of all as a sweet MP edition.

There are some I'd like to get my hands on. Black Sideswipe, the basic cars and jets. But I have a few already. It was a cool line, imo, but not enough to reissue. Besides, the majority of this line technically reissues of G1 toys to begin with. It'd be a bit redundant anyway, a reissue of reissue.

The best of G2 has been reissued or redecoed- Laser Optimus Prime, Dreadwing/Smokescreen, and the Cyberjets.

That's an intriguing idea. I can see where you get Slapdash from Hotfoot/Leadfoot (even have a vaguely similar transformation) and Joyride from Jetstorm or Aquafend. But I can't see what inspired you to have Sizzle/Volt repainted as Red Alert at all. And which Rapid Run are you referring to? The only ones I can think of are the two trains (RiD and Universe Micro) and the Energon motorbike. Are you sure you've got the right name?
