Windows is installing Linux drivers on my computer. lol

For the last four hours I've been trying to figure out why. For some reason windows is automatically installing Linux versions of my ATI driver onto my computer through the plug and play feature. Even when I uninstall them and run in safe mode to install the correct ones, it still screws me over. I'm at wits end with this thing. I've tried everything from turning off plug and play (which makes it impossible for the GPU to even be recognized I've found) to removing every driver on my computer and working my way back up. I got to a point where I finally got the chance to install the right ones. It went through the process and everything and gave me an ok. I restart and check. Well I'll be, the Linux driver was back again. I have no clue what to do except maybe pitch this damn computer down the bank into the Vermilion River. Maybe someone fishing in Lake Erie will catch it and give it a good home.

Sounds like you should just wipe the whole thing and start again, so long as you have the installation disks that came with your comp, if not, then resort to my favourite, screaming at the bloody thing!

I suggest changing the OS to Linux, this way the drivers won't be a problem as well any other **** Windows might give you.

Is Linux free? And. How hard is it to adapt to it once I've got it? I was hoping for something simpler than a fresh install like I just did oh 6 days ago.

And oddly enough after rolling back my system to before I installed the latest drivers, it's now fine. As far as I can tell at least.

yes linux is free.. depending on ur system, it could be simple to setup or a nightmare... X (or whatever windows wannabe gui) looks and feels like windows and should be fairly simple for anyone familar with windows/mac os to use

Well it no longer matters. Windows decided to crash during a BIOS update I was doing....Yeah. The system won't even boot now and theres no jumper to manually flash it back to it's original state. I now have an $800 paperweight on my desk. It's wonderful.

Woah! That has to be an ouch. If you do get it back up try choosing the drivers from hardware wizard from a list.
