Would you be up,for a animated 1986 TF movie REDONE IN CGI?

Discuss anything about the Transformers cartoons and comics! You can discuss anything from G1 to Cybertron as well as the comics from Marvel, Dreamwave, IDW and more!

A live action TFTM!

It would be kinda hard to do a live action movie based off the TF 1986 movie. DUE to their only being 2 humans in the entire 1986 animated TF movie.

The whole point of a live movie that features some CGI or cel animation. is having a huge supporting cast of humans mixing in with the CGI or cel animation

Basically the big problem is it would ruin the nostalgia, which I agree with. It'd be like if they redid Toy Story with what Pixar's capable of now. But the fact that it would make for something that looks awesome (especially Unicron) is undeniable, and it'd be cool not to replace the original, but just to see.

No, but I would like to see a animated direct to dvd movie in G1. Maybe the DW or IDW universe.

I'd rather see them direct their energy of fixingness toward S3.

While I was watching the 1986 animated movie on DVD a few days ago. I noticed that the brand new characters in the movie had top notch animation. while the older seasons 1 thru 2 characters in the movie had cheaper/awful animation in the 1986 movie. examples: the shuttle scene where the decepticons break thru & kill the autobots. the constructicons looked awful in animation.

I think maybe/perhaps the new movie characters used better/higher animation quality. while the season 1 & 2 characters in the 1986 movie might have used either recycled cartoon series animation or inferior amatueur animation.

The animation was most certainly not recycled, but I understand what you're saying. You are right they they used the same simplier, blocky animation models used in the animated series(why wouldn't they?), and put right next to the newer, rounder, more detailed Season 3 guys, the impact is a bit jarring.

One of the reasons for this is that(if I remember right) all the new characters save for Ultra Magnus were designed for animation first, and then made into toys. This of course makes the early Season 3 toys seem weird and out of place when compared to the previous Diaclone and Microman era ones.

I did double post? Well, d'oh.

Anyway, I also wanted to add to the point about the older animation not being as realistic but mainly just wanting to tell a good story. I agree whole heartedly, because I actually find it easier to lose myself in these stories because I know it's fantasy. I'll use Video Games as a great example:

Back in the day when graphics weren't as realistic designers had to get creative in order to express their enemies on screen. This sometimes led to exagerated limb sizes or creatures that can't possibly exist. One look and you could instantly tell it was a game and it wasn't something you'd see every day, and it could be considered a form of art. Therin lies the charm, because many games had their own unique look and feel to their worlds.

These days many games do go for that grim and gritty realistic look, and I gotta admit, that's a little off putting to me. It could be because I'm not as big of a gamer as I used to be, but most games just look boring. I like the outlandish designs, the exagerated proportions, the bright and colorful worlds. They just seem more lively, and the same logic can be applied to CGI.

Also, please note that there are exceptions to my outlook, and that maybe both schools of thought would work out well in moderation.

I'd like to see all four seasons of G1 redone with better animation and/or at least having those tons of animation errors fixed.

Nostalgia or not, it's plain distracting to see them and frustrating at times. Especially doing reviews for them and trying not to comment on all of them!

That CGI does have a nice feel to it, but it just hurts the originality and nostalgia of the cel shaded cartoon.

they should:

-fix the animation mistakes in the movie, and the cartoons.
-do an entirely cgi version of the movie, it wouldn't replace the original, but it'd be a nice experiment. and I've already bought 4 or 5 versions of the thing, be nice to own another. :P
-make a version of TFTM in all live action, with hot girls cosplaying for every role.
-do a sequel or two or 3, or maybe even just a couple of OVAs filling the gap between the 2nd season of the cartoon and the start of the film. Who wouldn't want to see the Decepticons fully taking over Cybertron, and the events that led to the Autobots having bases on 2 of the planet's previously unseen moons, as well as the construction of Autobot City and the first meetings (or reunions) between Prime and his Ark crew and Ultra Magnus, Kup, Hot Rod et al. I think there's a few seasons worth of animation right there, plus they could have the human element with Spike growing up, becoming a father and the formation of the EDC which might actually be interesting "human drama" (TM) for some of us older viewers?
assembling a Neo-G1/TF:TM cast. Please PM if you have (or know of) the following at a reasonable price: Classics or Henkei Astrotrain, Sunstreaker, Sideswipe, or 3rd Party iGear Ratchet and Ironhide.
Also looking for Universe Repugnus and Overbite, Frostbite and Longhorn and any Webdiver toys.

Craggy,I like the idea of having a bunch of hot women put into this updated live action 1986 TF movie. their could be a dozen+beautiful women riding around in all the autobot cars that are on the earth. their could be fashion models, reality stars like kim kardassian, some colombian/brazilan women. HECK Even throw in a few car wash scenes.

that is entirely fair enough. I get that. I probably would prefer it the way it is. But Hasbro is not George Lucas, and even he's relented a bit. Any new theoretical CGI remake/remix of the original film would not change the versions we all have on tape or dvd already. The original movie would remain so.

Yeah, the original would still be there. But both SW and ST have had updates. Even some Doctor Who DVDs have options for enhanced effects.

Especially with the TV series, it needs some cleanup work done.

This is my thoughts exactly. I will not get rid of my old one but it would be awesome to see it done new in CG.
