My first contact with Transformers was with the aborted Diakron line Takara tried to bring over to America themselves before they aligned with Hasbro (and Marvel) to come up with the entire Transformers mythos.
At first I had a red "sunstreaker" but there was a problem with the toy (which turned out to be a design flaw that also affected both of the actual Transformers Sunstreakers I wound up with later) so I took it back and got blue "trailbreaker".
My first actual Transformer was G1 Megatron, my mom got it for me in early summer of 84 as a reward for a good report card. It was literally the only Transformer TRU had at the time, though I had seen commercials on TV and I think I already had issue 1 of the comic.
First autobot was Brawn. I don't have much of a story for that one, though. Just a cheap toy I got for no particular reason.

As far as G1 posability goes, G1 Optimus Prime is not too shabby either:
Others with pretty good poseability (for G1 anyway) were Jetfire and Galvatron. Soundwave would be up there if his knees didn't bend the wrong way. Actually, you know what, he's still up there!
