I have a 60gb PS3 and I'm having problems downloading and installing the new firmware update.

I also understand that it's prone to destroying the PS3 if it does manage to install itself.

Does anyone know if Sony is creating a fix for this? I can't do any online stuff until it's fixed.

What do you mean trouble installing?

Did you download the patch? Or...where are you at in the process?

I've tried both downloading through the internet and using a USB stick to install.

The problem happens during the download itself. It will get to about 23% before it stops and gives me an error code that I keep forgetting to write down. It's done this about 4 times already.

After all the reports I've read on it, I am concerned what will happen to my PS3 if I do manage to install it. It seems like it might kill it.

I've heard that one about the firmware "killing" a PS3. Apparently that is a rumor. I have it on mine and am having no problems.

If you've got an error code, you need to be talking to Sony or putting it in Google to see what other people have dealt with.

That's strange though. May want to back up your data before doing anything else.
