I read that whoever hacked it got people's credit card information.

That's just the tip of the iceberg. Think about how many people who use the PSN and gave their CC information to Sony. I hope for the best for the PSN users, and from my point of view.. I just don't see that big of a company not resolving a network that's used by millions worldwide.

Someone on Gamepolitics noted that just before the PSN went down, a custom firmware was released. It was supposed to let you access a developers-only portion of the PSN. As it turns out, an unintended side-effect allowed people to input fake credit card information, and the system wouldn't check it, since it, something about being a trusted private server. You can imagine what people would do with this.

There is no confirmation that CC numbers were obtained, now this doesnt mean that they werent but as of now there is no proof that they were. According to sony if your account was stolen the only info they got is your PSN id, email, password, address and possibly your security question & answer. Since when you look at your account all you see of your credit card info is the last 4 digits its probably safe to say that our card numbers are on a separate secure server. That last part is just speculation so dont quote it as fact. Best thing to do is once psn is back change your password and security question & keep an eye on you credit card statements. So thats good to know. But still no word from the Netflix camp.
If this dosent clear up soon this could turn into a big lawsuit between multiple
parties.

According to Sony, credit card information is encrypted and stored on it's own server, but personal data is unencrypted and behind a--supposedly--complex security system. personal data was stolen, but Sony says there's no evidence to suggest credit card data was. Still, it's enough of an excuse to get paranoid, so keep your eyes on your credit card statements.

No information on the hackers at all. It's almost entirely information on GeoHot, who had nothing to do with the attack.

According to Master Card and a few other credit card companies, they haven't noticed any irregularities in cards related to PSN accounts. That's no reason to drop your guard, though. If ever there was a reason to be paranoid, this is probably it.

I've heard that they'll have it up by the 31st...that took too long.

Even better, change the first letter to a capital. Trust me, that works. Capital letters are like the Spanish Inquisition of passwords, no one expects them.
