Putting together a Monstructor

I've set my sights on putting together a Monstructor. So far the only figure I have is Slog, he's complete and in great condition but his gold plastic scares the hell out of me. As I was inspecting him I noticed a tiny fracture running from the corner of his left knee down to his foot. So I will probably never transform him again :-( . I'm sure I'll have same issue with Bristleback once I acquire him. So as a possible solution I'm considering picking up their Dinoforce inner robot counterparts, Kakurya and Gairya.

Judging from the comparison pics from the gallery linked above they appear to be identical in size. My only question is in regard to Kakurya. He appears to be made of white plastic with his monster chest painted gold. Am I correct on this, and has anyone else went this route?

I sadly dont have one but i did dig up a few photos online and I am gonna say paint. Bristleback same issue the gold plastic is more fragile. It would make sense that Japan would go with paint on higher quality plastic. Also thanks for bring this up! Monstructor is on my figure hunting list and since the figures arent as easy to find you tend to forget to check the details.

I would sub out for Dinoforce figures but they are harder to find and more expensive. But if I found a deal deffinately. Only problem is then I would want a complete Dinoking.

I would say that Bristleback is even more delicate than slog. My Monstructor pieces never get transformed, but I'm OK with that because he's still full of awesome in garish colors!

I will most likely repaint the Dinoforce stand-ins in Monstructor colors. Now I just need to find the two Dinoforce figures I need.

I feel your pain on the cracked plastic. I got one or two of them that have damaged body parts. Those things aren't cheap to replace. Funny thing is, I bought one to replace mine only to find out the replacement had the same type of damage on the opposite side of the same body part! :-x
Having original G1 figures is awesome but be prepared to get your wallet drained on the upkeep. My Sky Lynx needs a replaced leg, Jetfire needs armor pieces replaced, already mentioned Pretender Monster figs. You get the picture. And good luck finding those hard to find accessories. Some of them are a !@#$%#@ to find.

Trust me I know, I have every G1 figure from the first three series complete and I've alomst completed series four. I've spent a mint on parts. That's why I'm considering going with the Dinoforce versions of Bristleback and Slog, to get away from the GPS. I think it'll work out just as well, especially if I repaint Kakurya's lower legs and Gairya's arms and legs.

Wow, buying Dinoforce to paint into Monstercons? Has the world turned topsy-turvy.

I need Kakurya to complete my set. I may have an extra, no parts Gairyu, I bought at a Botcon a few years ago.

There are KO's out there, I believe. Not high quality, but at the rate that things are going, those will probably come along quickly enough.

I'll have to look to see if I can help you out. I'm not sure how cheap of a help you out it will be though.

I have dreams of completing Monstructor someday too. My poor lonely Wildfly... I'd love to see Monstructor and Dinoking reissued with something better than the gold plastic eventually.

Madness? THIS..IS..SEIBERTRON!!!! My goal would be to find some loose yellowed examples of the two Dinoforce figures I mentioned. That way painting the yellowed parts would serve a two-fold purpose, covering the ugly discoloration and making them more Monstructory. No way would I repaint an entire Dinoforce into Monsterbots, that would be insane! I had already though of going the KO route, but my searches have only turned up an oversized version that is currently on the market. I found mention of an original size KO, but so far I haven't found any for sale. I would definitely go with some KO stand-ins for Slog and Bristleback, and just leave the originals in storage to RIP :-( .

You and me both. That's the kind of reissue they need to throw us in the Encore line, some more stuff that's never been reissued before. I guess Dinoforce could be considered a reissue, but since they have unique Pretender shells I consider them an origianl set. More Japanese G1 please.

I would expect that to become even more expensive.

I have the oversized KO's. They're good quality. My biggest problem is when I eventually get them repainted, do I go Pretender Monsters or Dinoforce for the colours?

I really wish one of thesse KO companies would do an original size KO. I normally don't support KO's, but it would be nice to have some stand-ins in this particular situation.

Now that we've got an excellent update of Bludgeon, here's hoping the likes of Monstructor won't be too far behind.

For now, i'm using ROTF Supreme Devastator as a classics Monstructor stand-in...
Wanted:
Botcon 2010 Scorch
Cybertron Cannonball
25th anniversary Insecticons

Lots of stuff for trade, PM me if interested.

Sorry about the necro-bump, but kind of a cool update. I happened to stop by a Vintage Stock (chain of vintage shops around here, not sure how wide spread they are) today, they usually always have a few random TF's. As I was scanning over their case for new items who did I come across? A mint Bristleback, robot and shell! The even better part, they had it marked for $1.99. I'll have to get the back piece, Monstructor hand, and hand guns, but a mint Bristleback inner robot for $1.99! No sign of GPS either! Just thought I would share.
