Hey gang,

I was hoping a few of you could answer a quick question for me in regards to a black repaint of G1 optimus. I cant seem to track down much info.

Firstly, Is the 2000 JAFCON exclusive black repaint of Optimus the first time it was repainted black? And secondly has it ever been repainted black as an official release ( exclusive or not) since then?

Im fully aware of the KO's getting around also. Any help is appreciated.

It was the first (and only) time that particular mold had been painted black. No retail release that I know of.

The only black repaint of a G1 Optimus mold that hit retail upon my knowledge was the Nucleon Quest Optimus Prime. He was a Toys "R" Us exclusive in Japan and he was a black repaint of Powermaster Optimus Prime.

With that, do be aware that there are KO's of God Ginrai done entirely in black, including Godbomber. The black Godbomber is the true KO sign, as mentioned before, it was never released as such.

That actually intrigues me. I'd really love a black God Ginrai. If a KO black godbomber of decent quality exists where an official one does not, I may be satisfied with it...

Cheers guys, Pretty much confirms what I thought.

So the only two official BLACK G1 releases are the Jafcon G1 prime and the Nucleon quest Powermaster Prime . But a KO of both are available, with Powermaster Prime including God Bomber. I'm just that little bit wiser now :-B

I also believe that the Jafcon G1 was limited to 800 pieces, so the chance of obtaining one is slim to none, and the price I'm guessing would be astronomical.

So asking price on Nucleon quest Powermaster Prime is around $170- $200 on ebay currently. :shock:

Thoughts?

That black Powermaster Prime looks good. Damn, now I'm tempted. I bought the KO black G1 Prime and I'm pretty disappointed in the quality.

I have a G1 Black OP. Not Ginrai, the "original". On the bottom of the trailer, it's written "Made in France". Any clue if it's real or not?

BTW, just for fun, one hinge of the trailer's back-door is broken...

I believe that this was the only Prime made in Strasbourg, France:

I'd be inclined to say that your Black made In France Prime is indeed a KO
And since when has a broken door ever stopped you? :lol:

Oh well... I thought so. It IS a very good KO because everything that should be is. He transform superbly and it has no flaws... until that idiot who sold it to me packed it pretty much loose and bouncing in the shipping box. :BANG_HEAD:

I hope that's not 30$ wasted.

Most of the later issue KO Black Prime's are noted for their loose wheel pins, stickers and panels amongst other issues. So if yours transforms perfectly, then I'd say that it's $30 well spent.

Made in France? Interesting, this may indicate that these KO's have been made using the French Joustra Diaclone molds, and they were not reverse-engineered as previously thought. :-?

That doesn't make them any more legal though :lol:

I have both black G1 Optimus Prime/Convoy figures. Jafcon "Black" Convoy can be had for $200 and up. I did use those quotations for a reason too. Be aware, Jafcon Convoy is NOT entirely black. His plastic is mostly a transparent dark brown with gold metallic flecks in it. You don't just have to take my word for it though. Seibertron can also confirm this. He's nice despite all that. As always, your opinion may differ on whether the cost is worth it.
