QFT! Thats the typical American parent attitude. Blame everyone else and famous people for their kid's mistakes and not themselves for being lousy parents.

Uh, he's 21. That's not the parent's responsibility anymore, considering he's a grown adult. Saying it's all the parents' fault is just freakin' stupid. Not everything a kid does wrong is their child's fault. It's not your fault the kid starts drinking, it's the kids' fault themselves. They chose to. You don't speak for your kids, like they don't speak for you. And yeah, drunken actor- not good publicity.

Shia did screw up, but I'll forgive him. (EDIT: For now anyway...)
But about recasting him...?
Not a snowball's chance in hell!! He's already esablished as the star human of the movie-verse.

Em, cos the kids choose to drink it, but it's still the parents responsibility to show them what may happen.

I mean, my parents toled me that alcohol isn't the best thing in the world and that I should be careful with it, they also let me try a bit of beer every once and a wile.
so what happened as I turned 16 and was legally aloud to drink beer?
I only drink with friends and don't over due it, well I do sometimes :P
Yes he is 21, but it's so very wrong to make him responsible for everything.

Your kids= Your responsibility and not an actors or musisions!

Wow, that's just completely inappropriate and ignorant. You're saying only American parents have blamed outside influences for corrupting their children? Shut up with that crap. :-x

Perhaps it's your parents fault that you're culturally ignorant and prejudice then?

LOL! Me! Culturally ignorant! Listen buddy ive been and lived in more countries then you will probably ever even think of visiting in your lifetime.

What i am saying is that American "culture" is ripe with parents who feel compelled to blame every outside source for their children's misgivings or mistakes, but are never willing to blame themselves. Sure it happens all over the world, but you always hear of it happening more often in america. Like Columbine for example, sure lets blame it on Marilyn Manson, or The Matrix, lets not blame the parents or the violent gun-toting nature of American society.

Parents seem to think that its the responsibility of popular celebrities to bring up their kids, instead of actually doing their jobs as parents and being the role models for their kids themselves.

Your comment just proves the point i am trying to make.

I don't know of any parents who have blamed Hollywood for their kids' f-ups. I certainly would never think of placing blame for my childrens' wrong doings.

The media on the other hand, certainly tries to find blame in art. The only reason the US has situations where Hollywood integrity is called to the attention of debate is because US censorship is so much more strict and conservative than other parts of the world.

But it's not the parents. Before you insult an entire population of the US, try thinking about what you're saying. You just did the equivalent of saying "All Irish are drunks" or "Black people are criminals".

I'm not trying to make enemies or start a flame war. It just offends me as both an American and a parent to see a comment like that in here.

I'd mention that sources never actually said he was drunk-- a cashier called in and said he was drunk after Shia complained to the cashier for denying his purchase of Tylenol, or something like that, and refused to leave. Cops said he was very courteous when they arrived, though peeved, and was never asked to take a breathalyzer test, because he hadn't driven to the store.

And anyway, unless he actually landed himself a jail sentence, asking for a recast is just stupid. As long as he can act well, keep em'. I like my continuity.

You make a perfect point there.
He was polite and didn't drive around endangering other people. And he's not under age. So as long as he doesn't become a hazard to the community, he can drink himself silly if he wants to. (Though I don't recomend it.)

Very active topic. My statement that started this all was mostly my interest in throwing out something that would be controversial. Perhaps that has been accomplished too well. And I do agree that the media focus on the actors and famous people out there is certainly tainted. Some great points on this forum topic.

They should not recast him. He was the best part of the movie, and I'm going into CG.

Sam was a smart ass and that's why audiences loved him. Nobody would have respected a nice guy who always wants to do the right thing. Good thing they instead got a self-centered smart mouth who sasses his father and teacher.

The Walgreens incident was nothing. I've been stoned in Taco Bell and made more of an ass of myself. Don't tell me you've lost respect for him because he was a little tipsy in Walgreens and spent the night in the drunk tank. Hell, from what I've read in this topic of his behavior during and after the incident, he's gained even more of my respect.

Recasting Shia as Sam for this movie would be like all of a sudden having Paul Walker and Vin Diesel play Frodo and Sam in Two Towers.
Buy my RiD toys! They're awesome, I promise!!!!
