Replacing "defective" figures with "better" versions

Feel free to discuss anything about any of the thousands of Transformer toys here. Anything from Generation 1 all the way to the soon to be released, the never to be released or the hope to be released is fair game! Want to show off your stuff? Please post your's and see others in the Transformers Collections Forum.

Replacing "defective" figures with "better" versions

Let me start with a small dilemma. I have the regular version of Movie Camaro Concept Bumblebee. You know, the one with the floppy limbs and what not? Got him when he first came out :P Well, a local toy store has acquired some stock of Movie Screen Battles for cheap, and the Capture of Bumblebee set was among them. I was considering getting it just for the figure (he's a minor repaint, replacing the black with grey) and to replace the "defective" Bumblebee, but then I thought "Why replace him if he only has some floppy arms? That wouldn't be fair to the toy, would it? Nothing that's not fixable"

What would you guys do if such a situation arises? Buy it for the sake of replacing it? Also, what would you do with the old double? I'm a bit sentimental with my toys, that's why I'm asking :)

If I recall, the first recolouring of the mold was Cliffjumper. Everything was fixed after that. If you want a better version, and are willing to pay the price for it, then heck, do it.

I've been able to "repair" defective parts of the figures in my collection so far so I haven't personally found a reason to make such a consideration.

If you have the money and the price is right, I don't see the big deal in getting an improved newer production figure of the mold. Go for it if it's a good deal. :)

If I ever did come to have duplicate figures, I'd give them to my brother or any other relatives or friends who I think would want a Transformer.

Do it, there's no reason not to, the price difference ain't even that much. People bought the ROTF Brawl repaint bc its shoulders are supposedly fixed.

If price isn't an issue, then there is no issue at all. Buy it, fix it, and have fun with it.

That's an answer I can live with :) I may get him then and put the old one with the G1 inspired decos. :)

I am amazed with how "heartless" the rest of you all seem to be :P

I upgrade all the time.

It gets expensive, so, that's pretty much the limiting factor.

I turn the replaced ones into battle-damage diorama figures. In that sense, they still play an active role in my collection. Megatron always needs some Autobots to tear up once in a while :P

If it's a floppy ball joint do the superglue fix. It only costs a couple of quid for a tube of the stuff. Screw joints can be tightened or have a sliver of something inserted if need-be. It's often simple and cheap to fix a joint.

You think buying nail varnish is weird? Try asking a lady for advice on buying make-up. That's strange. Especially when you need to ask for the sluttiest colour they have.

I like fancy dress parties.

And IMO superglue is better than nail varnish for fixing joints.

I haven't tried nail varnish yet but I like how super glue has worked for me so far. :) I just put some on HA BB to tighten up the hip joints.

Energon Scorponok is on my list so I don't want to buy one only to destroy it soon after. :D
