Rock Band or Rock Band 2

I don't have either game. Would you suggest I buy Rock Band with the equipment and Rock Band 2 (just the game) or the other way around? Basically, I just want to find out if it's better to own the first Rock Band set of equipment or the second. You'd think the second, since it's newer and they probably improved, but you never know.

I don't have it but some of my friends that do like rock band 2 equipment better, they say it is sturdier.I also think you can rent rock band 1 and copy most of the songs onto your 360 hard drive to use with rockband 2
