Announced live yesterday at San Diego Comicon — the original Marvel Transformers comic series (cancelled back in 1991 at issue #80) is being continued by IDW Publishing, thanks in large part to an online fan petition (big shouts for Luke and Ron of the IDW forums) and the tireless efforts of IDW EiC Chris Ryall. Transformers (‘classic’) will (re-) launch in Spring 2012 with issue 80 and a half, and reunites the previous writer/artist team of myself and Andrew Wildman. The reinvigorated run will build to a monumental 100th issue conclusion, pulling together and tying up every dangling plotline you can think of and a whole lot you can’t! What else can I tell you about the series? Nada. Niente. Zilch. So don’t ask. For the time being anyway we’re keeping this tightly under wraps. But it is going to shatter your trousers! Guaranteed!

This is awesome news! With the exception of Infestation, Heart of Darkness, and maybe Chaos(I'm only an issue in), IDW TF comics have sucked for a very long time. The main reason I stopped buying comics for so long. I'm in the same camp as some others, hopefully G2 isn't ignored(I absolutely loved that series). Maybe we'll get to see the rise of Jhiaxus and his G2 Decepticons. How awesome would that be?

This is great news ,i can't wait .But i do have a question for any one who reads this .Well i read that Simon Furman will wrap up all lose ends of the Marvel series ,so it made something come to mind .Is Optimus really Optimus ??In issue #24 after Prime lost the game got blown up ,than Ethan Zachary saved a copy of Optimus Prime on a floppy disc .Issue #27 Prime's body was sent in to space ,seen later in the Matrix Quest story .But than in issue #40 Ethan Zachary has been playing around with Prime in some type of game ,than in issue #42 the disc Prime is "PUT" inside the body of "POWERMASTER OPTIMUS PRIME!!! .So from that point on ,no matter how you look at it Prime from that issue on is a copy .But what is your thoughts on this ,and will Simon Furman address this?

but then when he becomes a Powermaster and bonds with Hi-Q, a metamorphosis gradually occurs in which Hi-Q's and Optimus's minds begin to merge into the same being. So after Optimus dies again in the battle against Unicron, with only Hi-Q remaining alive, the Nebulon scientist had essentially become Optimus Prime. So, at that point, Optimus was a fleshling... until the Last Autobot created his new body based on the design of his Action Master toy.

im so looking forward to this. if were lucky and sales are good enough it could even become a third ongoing .

with this and james roberts being put on the second TF book alongside barber im literaly in heaven.

this is the best news on the TF front for ages IMO.

Fair play to IDW for taking a chance on giving the fans what they want. i hope it pays off for em comercially so we can all be happy !

Looks like we will finally find out what happened to the Neo Kinghts too.

Optimus Prime said they'll be taken back home on the last page of #80.

Thats their story told. We don't need to see 40+ year old Jose Beller wearing her old Circuit Breaker outfit.

I;'m simply adding to the fact, over time, he becomes less and less the original Optimus Prime that he was to begin with. He starts off as a robot, then a copy of that robot, then a Nebulon human who says he's that robot, then a new robot made from that human who claimed to be the copied robot of the original robot. At this point, we might as well call him bob for all we know.

Someone please remind me to give a damn later.

Well at least we are all on the same page that "Prime" might not even know who he is .If Simon can make any sense out of it ,i will give him a hand and call him a genius.

At the #100 climax, there will be a huge battle between all the G1 fans and all the other TF fans. It won't be pretty!

Coolest thing Ever!!!! Well, hopefully yeah, I hope it remains true and consistent throughout the story for Generation 2. And Hmmm.... 20 issues seems to be little short for the this comeback.
