Sentinel from Animated was a good guy
Sentinel from Animated was a good guy

But actually, I belive that Sentinel attitude was pretty much a facade. After watching episode called nomen omen "Predacons Rising" i start to think that deep inside he was a good, miserable guy. He just is to proud to admit that he feel responsible for Arcee fate, and he belives that he supposed to be superior to everyone since he is Prime. This is also reason why he threat Optimus so badly: in fact he consider him as he's best (if not only true) friend ( But only friend: I hate al this shipping stuff).
And he's ego is why he so many time was humiliated. He simply tries to prove something not for anyone else, but to himself. In PR we got w prove that he isn't a total jerk, and despite he's annoyance, he clearly is not a evil character.
The one and only reason why I miss Animated Seazon 4 is because I belive we could see in it more of Sentinel's good and soft side, and personally, I think that would be a perect conclusion for Sentinel's story.

Which would have made for even more great comedy with him.

I think i he was going to die in seazon 4, the last few episodes would be about Sentinel becoming true hero.

We already got a taste of his leadership in "This Is Why I Hate Machines" and in "The Stunti-Con Job", in which his arrogance and conceit dominated above all, even making threats to Sideswipe and Cheetor just because they interrupted the Stunt Convoy performance he was watching.TurboMMaster wrote:Why so sure Sentinal would be bad leader? He is charismatic, inteligent and seems to understand that decepticons should be destroyed. He have it's flaws, but there was a small chance for him.
The actual publicly known information on season 4 says otherwise.TurboMMaster wrote:I think i he was going to die in seazon 4, the last few episodes would be about Sentinel becoming true hero.
Sentinel Prime existed to be a foil to Optimus so as to make Optimus look even better than he already looked. He was the kind of character who was so good at what he did that we relished seeing him get his comeuppance. A sort of "Our favorite jerkwad we love to hate."

He's what TVTropes refers to as a "Nominal Hero", among other things.

For the record, I think the title "Magnus" is idiotic. I always thought that was the Autobot's name, and if anything, "Ultra" was his title. I don't know why, maybe because IRL Magnus is an actual name.

I would have been fun to see Sentinel change for the better while fighting his insecurities, but i think the better plot would have been optimus trying to work around and eventually overcome sentinel as the leader of the autobots we all know.

A few of the folks who worked on Animated had also worked on The Tick, so they'd be suing themselves in that case.Rodimus Prime wrote:Also, I wonder if the creators of The Tick gave serious thought to an infringement lawsuit...
Also, it's not a blatant ripoff as there are far too many differences in the designs between Sentinel and the Tick to raise any fuss.

Actually, I belive he have more in common with Plucky Duck from Tiny Toon Adventures since he is acutaly a good and quite powerfull guy with too big ego, and that usually backfires at him. He have (at worst) a lot in common with Zapp Brannigan from Futurama either.Sabrblade wrote:Also, it's not a blatant ripoff as there are far too many differences in the designs between Sentinel and the Tick to raise any fuss.
Yet still, he looks like the Tick, and have the same voice actor, so resemblance is obvious.
I quess it is because they are original. I really like idea of recreating character from scratch, and it's a shame that this is so uncommon, mostly because of fans reception (Althought, Prime had changed many characters, with many characters rectreated from scratch).DarkEnergon wrote:The characters in Animated were just so fun - i loved the starscream clones - i loved animated starscream, but i agree that blitzwing and sentinel were the two best.
I think that it's a shame that "Predacon's Rising" (Animated episode) was aired so lately. Give us a prove that Sentinel consider Optimus as he's best friend at the end of third seazon (Cancelliation aside)?

But as for his reconciling with Optimus in "Predacons Rising", it took him learning the truth about Blackarachnia to do so, since he had blamed Optimus all those years for what happened to Elita-1, thinking she had died.
Though, even after that moment between the two, he went right back to belittling Optimus in the "Decepticon Air" episode, and then looked very annoyed and jealous of Optimus when he showed up back on Cybertron with three captured Decepticons (including the mighty Megatron), the Magnus Hammer, and a reconstituted AllSpark.
Then in the season 3.5 story "The Stunti-Con Job", Sentinel finally get fully promoted to Magnus (with Ultra Magnus having succumbed to his wounds and perished) and he smuggly rubs it in Optimus's face every chance he gets, and enjoys every moment of it (Optimus, however, tries not to be bothered by it since he knows Sentinel just wants a moment of glory now that Optimus had become a celebrity).

I belive that Sentinel lives in denial. Deep inside he is aware that it's all because of him, and he knows what other bots are thinking about him. He is just to proud to confess to it.Sabrblade wrote:But as for his reconciling with Optimus in "Predacons Rising", it took him learning the truth about Blackarachnia to do so, since he had blamed Optimus all those years for what happened to Elita-1, thinking she had died.
I think that he's line in "Predacons Rising" where he said to Optimus, that this reminds him good old days was meaningfull. After all, is there anyone who Sentinel could consider as he's true friend more than Optimus? It is just friendship in very twisted, unoridnary way.
So technically, Sentinel is aware that Optimus is in many ways better than him. And that is why he try to prove so badly that this isn't true.Sabrblade wrote:Though, even after that moment between the two, he went right back to belittling Optimus in the "Decepticon Air" episode, and then looked very annoyed and jealous of Optimus when he showed up back on Cybertron with three captured Decepticons (including the mighty Megatron), the Magnus Hammer, and a reconstituted AllSpark.
