where do you guys pick this stuff up i need the extra space in my house so im going to make my garage a transformers shrine guys have any ideas you think it would be better to build it my self

If it's in the garage, then whatever you choose, make sure it's glass-covered, otherwhise who knows what will get on your figs. Personally I get shelves from Ikea, they're cheap, easy to build, and pretty durable

Depends on what goes on in your garage. If you or family does any car work, then there could be residue or metal filings. If there's carpentry, then there may be woodshavings? I don't know what chemicals make up exhaust, but I'd rather they not come in contact with my figures.

Here's a short list of the worrying components:

# Carbon Monoxide
# Nitrogen dioxide
# Sulphur dioxide
# Suspended particles including PM-10, particles less than 10 microns in size.
# Benzene
# Formaldehyde
# Polycyclic hydrocarbons

Note that this makes up less than 10% of the exhaust, the largest portion seems to be Water Vapor and Carbon Dioxide. Still, not things you'd want the chance to have on your figures(especially if it builds up).

On top of the possibility of getting things on your figs, is your garage's temperature pretty moderate? I don't think wild swings in temperature (broiling in summer to frigid in winter) are in general optimal for TF storage.

Then again, maybe you live somewhere where that's not an issue.

Making your own custom adjustable shelves is really easy. Here's a pic of the shelves I made from scratch earlier this year.



Just bought some shelving wall rails and brackets at Lowes, and some 1x12's and 1x2's at the lumber yard. Used the 1x12's for the actual shelves and the 1x2's for the front and side trim. Fairly easy, affordable, and you get a nice custom look.

I think DIY shelving is the way to go. Bookcases are nice, but they are limited in the number of shelves and their adjustability. I find that I end up with a lot of wasted space on the taller shelves, and there aren't as many figures that need that much space. The lower cost of DIY is also a plus...and pray that you're good at carpentry.

those are really nice shelves! i had this idea in my head of glass display cases and lights and whatnot, and its looking more unrealistic these days. this looks like an attractive and relatively cheap option. what kind of tools did you have available for this project? im guessing a table saw and a router?

Nah, nothing that fancy. All I used was a jigsaw to cut the boards to length, a compound miter saw for the trim, and an orbital sander. Luckily my father in law has the compound miter saw, but you could easily substitute a hand saw and miter box. Put it all together and stain and vanish to match your existing wood work.

Even if the garage will be completely converted into a shrine and car free, garages are still filthy places. There will be large amounts of dust in the air unless you give it a thorough cleaning.

Since I rent, I use shelves from Ikea. I would like to be able to do some custom shelves for some of the larger figures, but the Ikea shelves work just fine. Most of them have some level of height adjustment and they look great.

Aside from the issues of being in the garage, I think custom shelves are the way to go. I have a similar set up as the other guy who posted his pic except that I opted for glass rather than wood. It is very nice to be able to adjust the height of your shelves to fit whatever you are putting in there, and there's a lot more room display area compared to putting a bunch of Deltof's next to each other. Conversely dust is a big issue with an open air display.

I have shelves similar to Duque and Thor for my Marvel Legends collection.
Also acquired from Lowes.

My TFs are on a 5 tier baker's rack with 48 x 18 inch shelves.
I cut clear lexan to make the actual shelving since the baker's racks are wire.

This works well, as a lot more light gets through the lexan than my wooden shelves and it is a LOT cheaper than glass.

You can get these types of shelves at places like Lowes, and you can buy extra shelf units separately from the 4 level "starter set".

I'm looking to redo my office/display area this year to make more room. I'll probably add another layer of shelving to the adjustable wall unit, and add a table-height 4' shelf that runs the length of the back wall.
