Soundwave is just as awsome, but a little less so because he can't hold his G1 casettes. Still looks great with them all around him.

Both sets are highly worth it but don't put the red strips on the sides of CCs trailer. After a while as the BFG the labels stuck together. Small heads up.
They mail it from Canada and the longest I ever waited for them to arrive was 2 1/2 weeks. Just stay patient.

In short order, why I don't prefer him as a Classics Soundwave:
-He's too small, should really be about Megatron's size.
-He's an MP3 player that...looks exactly like a tape deck. All of the much recommended sticker sets simply further this idea that he should look like a tape deck.
-He's incompatible with everything, tapes, weapons, 3rd party Frenzy and Rumble.
I know people don't like this, but G1 Soundwave was released in Classics packaging with the double tape deck. He was confirmed at BotCon as being in the "Classics" line with that release. Aaron Archer commented that in regards to Soundwave in a G1 appearance..."How do you top the original?" For all official intents and purposes, the reissue is in the Classics line.
-He's sized perfectly with Megatron from Classics
-Yes, he's an outdated tape player.
-He's compatible with everything, old tapes, new tapes, 5mm peg hole, 3rd party stuff
I make this argument all the time, but it gets shot down mostly. I just don't understand how DL Soundwave, as an update...that's supposed to look like the old tape player, with less functionality than G1 Soundwave, is better.
Now, I have the white DL Soundwave in my SG collection where he is appropriately placed in fiction.
Also, I highly recommend DL Blaster. That toy is excellent.

As do most people.
Personally, i'm a scale freak - i think a deluxe class Megatron fits better with the seekers and ML Soundwave, etc.
Also, he's more in scale with combiners such as classics Devastator and Bruticus.
Just my 2 cents

Disagree! Haha, no surprise, right? I like him because he's updated and more articulated. I also don't use the Reprolabels because I think they're unnecessary. And scale doesn't bother me too much. Megatron's the boss-man anyway, it makes sense that he's taller. All that, and I just think it looks weird to have a blocky old G1 sitting in there amongst all the nice, new, modern-engineered classics. By your logic, Perceptor & the Insecticons would be Universe...but Perceptor is getting an update. Reissues just get released under other lines so they can do it and not confuse casual consumers. My reissue Soundwave goes with the rest of the G1s where he belongs.
Thread: Yes. Except Rumble/Frenzy & iPod Prime, they're all excellent. You should also consider Ravage. While he can't interact directly with Soundwave (you'd need Blaster as a mediator - IRONY!), he looks damn awesome.

Universe Ravage fits in DL Blasters chest just fine!

While the "Headphonicons" are quite the epic failing, ML Optimus Prime is awesome! (NOTE: Remember that there are two different versions; the white "Convoy" and the red and blue "Optimus Prime." Takara saw fit to make it a distinct difference for the first time ever.) The new deeper colors, the tampographed Autobot symbol, the completely new more accurate head. It actually replaced the G1 Optimus Prime in my display. Plus the trailer folds up to be like one of those party platforms that MTV used to drive around the country for events in the 80's and 90's. I used to have it set up on my window with Actionmaster Blaster MCing and all the different Energon Arcee repaints around it like it was "Spring Break: Iacon."

I can't afford the reissue, plus I'm big on G1, so I'm using Generations Soundwave for my Neo-G1 display. He doesn't look quite G1-ish, true, but next to Energon Galvatron and Universe Cyclonus, he looks different enough to explain away the design change, but still G1-ish enough to pass as THE Soundwave.
Works for me. Oh, and that whole "I can turn into the boombox shown in WFC" helps too.
Thanks for the tips on DL Blaster. I think, once he drops in price (and he will), that I'll be ordering him for my collection.
I was never big on cassettes either...that's another reason why I didn't go for the G1 reissues.

That aside, I have the Music Label Soundwave, and I'm kinda waiting to save up for Device Label Blaster, but I'm not as big on his character as I could be, so I'm in no hurry or dire necessity for him. I did get the Repro sticker set for ML SW, but I've found that some of the stickers are not holding up well to transformation wear. I really only wanted it for the more defining chest sticker though, so I'll live with it.
As for why I go for ML SW, well it's a simple case of poseability. I know G1 Soundwave is okay for it's poseability, but I have to have the maximum possible range and Music Label delivers. The fact that he has a show accurate head is a bonus as well, even though it doesn't always like to sit right. The MP3 player function is one I don't care for too much, given I never liked MP3 players anyway, but if I were to have one at all I'd want one that transforms into an awesome robot.
And finally, the cassettes... well like I said I want the most poseability I can get out of my Transformers, and since we're going to see a Rumble and Frenzy in future that turn into tanks, the Ravage that comes with Hound works well enough with the figure it came with, and no one version of Laserbeak is a great deal better than any other(save for the block from Cybertron SW), I'm more than okay foregoing that bit of play value.
I like ML SW so well in fact I've been half tempted to get a Blaster Black version just to put alongside my measly number of classics post 86 movie cons as Soundblaster.

Nope.
Anyway, this is an issue of relative scale, which is a perfectly thing to discuss. But perhaps, and I only mean perhaps, a very long and time consuming rant might change my opinion.

Just foolin', Spoomy.
Seriously CP, where would you put ML Soundwave in you collection? You have the white in with SG already so that's a no go. It's this idea that somehow a G1 toy fits in with others 20+ years advanced that screws with people. Would you do that with Trailbreaker or the Insecticons? Or Skids or Blitzwing, Reflector, Shockwave, Menasor or the Dinobots?
No. It just doesn't look right, doesn't feel right. It isn't right for most of our collections. Generation 1 toys stand out like the antiques they now are. And for those of us that feel that way there are only two Soundwaves available: Music Label and Titanium.
Music Label for the win.

Knowing you CP, it isn't worth the effort. Just for the record though, there's a 12-13 page long entry on scale and the problems it's caused over at the TFwiki. If the reasoning doesn't draw itself then ranting about it is superfluous.
Scale = Hopeless, relative or otherwise.
