I saw Evil Dead the Musical just today. I have to say... I'm not a musical person, but this wasn't bad at all. A lot of in-jokes and movie lines, singing wasn't bad, cheesy humour. Everything Evil Dead was... well, except with singing.

This was put on by a local university, so it wasn't THE official Evil Dead musical. I can't comment on if it was the same as the official one, but really good. They combined the first two movies into one and ended with the final scene of Army of Darkness where he's retelling the story in S-Mart (and Ash alludes to having gone back in time to be everyone's king... you know, AOD in his own words).

i have not seen any evil dead movies before,but is the main character the guy with a chainsaw arm?(sorry if i sound like a noob for not seeing a possibly classic movie)

I'm not much of a musical person myself either.. but I'd definatley pay to see that!!

And yes.. the main character, Ash, is the dude with the chainsaw arm... well.. hand.

Of course we cant forget his faithful boomstick either!!

I'd pay to go see it again, but now I want to save my money for the official one. Problem is I don't live in an artsy town, so the chances of it coming here are small, but there are a few towns within a few hours away (Montreal or Toronto) that will likely have it. If this university production is any indication of the real thing, I'd recommend it.

Did you see it at Carleton U? Cause I saw that they were putting it on in the University of Ottawa newspaper.

I've actually seen the official show in Toronto, and it was fantastic! Like you said, it was funny, full of in-jokes, and I'm not sure what they did with the student production, but the official show had a "splash zone".

That's right. The first 3 rows got wet from fake blood spewing off the stage. Nothing says "great musical" like coming away with a blood-stained t-shirt

Unfortunately for those who still want to see it (at least in Canada), it's Toronto run is over. I don't know if they plan on starting it up again anywhere else.

Yeah, I checked them out a bit too late. I hope they do another run. I'd love to see it (and get splattered).
