Sold it, all gone...

I know it seems like blasphemy to some to sell something I have coddled for so long, but I did, I sold my entire TF collection.

Well, I did keep MP prime and a couple keep sakes but other than that, *poof!*

Why would I do such a thing? Well, I've been traveling the world and such lately and (this is where it gets weird) and after spending some time with both Hindu Guru's and Buddhist monks in caves...I had a couple revelations.

One is not being attached to things I own. People equated who I was with the fact I collected these things. I wanted to show that I was a human being beyond what I could hold in the palm of my hand. It's that old saying "Kill your father, kill your god then kill your teacher". I'll explain that to those who really want to know, don't be literal about it.

So, why the TF's then? Well, aside from strengthening my identity as a human being and not a collector (there is nothing wrong with that for some, it's just not right for me) The tipping point came with the death of my grandfather. As part of the inherited property I received a large and rather amazing painting of a Spitfire he had since I can remember. The only place to put it, was taken up by TF's on display. So there it sat, for months. When I returned from my last trip in Northern Thailand, It was the first thing I noticed.

I gave it some thought. Today it hangs proudly on my wall, as a reminder of what family means. The TF's gave their very existence to make that happen, sort to speak. Do I miss them? Absolutely. Would I do it again? Absolutely. Do I regret any of it? Not in the least.

Nothing like wiping the slate clean. I can always start again, when appropriate. I wonder if others have had their own reasons for doing such things? Please don't take this as a "I'm done with it". It is nothing of the sort. I just awarded myself a new place to grow from.

Now, if you will excuse me i'm going to go eat a high caloric pizza. If I can only give those up as easily...

Well I'm glad you're happy. I don't feel like selling mine because they have been the only thing I could rely on in dark times. Also, to be totally honest, they've been such a big part of my life that they DO define a part of me!

I'm glad that you found something that enriches your life, but to go to a toy board and declare yourself reformed because of your decision to discard what the rest of us hold dear is in bad taste, at least IMO.

If u need to get rid of toys to make your life complete then that's strange. I don't collect toys to make my life complete. I have Jesus in my my life and that is all I need. The toys are more memories than anything, good ones at that. And to properly cleanse yourself, you need to get rid of all your toys not most. Basically what your saying is that we are all losers and your better than us now. Good luck though.

No that's your Christian dogma saying that to the rest of us for your behalf. Don't bash his philosophy if it works for him. I'm a Christian myself and your type of thinking is ludicrous to me. Let people find peace where they can, find love where they can. The guy is basically saying he's better off without it all for now or maybe forever. Who are you or anybody to tell him any different?

Proximus, man family is more important to me than most things. If I absolutely had to let it all go to find a sort of peace in a loved one's passing, you bet your ass I'd do it. Good luck bud.

I'm not trying to cause a problem. I was just saying what I had in my life. Not telling him to do the same thing. I guess I look at tfs different than most. I only grew up with one parent my mother. My dad was in jail. The only time I met him he got me 2 things a wwf magazine and a tf (cliffjumper). So to this day I collect tfs and still watch wrestling. My dad was a awful person but I guess those memories are the only good ones I have. But I'm not making this thread to make anyone feel sorry for me. I hope that getting rid of your figures helps your journey. The way keeping them helps with mine.

I wish I could do the same thing with most of mine. No will power to give them up, but it would generate some extra cash, and also give me some extra room in my home.

Hasn't grown as quickly as it used to, so that at least, is something.

Uhh...Whoa..

This was only meant to be a discussion piece. I'm not holding anything over anyone. I still love the stuff, obviously i'm still here. It's not in bad taste at all. I wonder if people still read posts anymore. I said there was nothing wrong it, it just wasn't right for me, not right now. It's not religious, it's not anything. I'd prefer to leave that out of it thank you very much. Pardon me for having "bad taste" simply because I chose a different path.

Again, let me get this straight. I STILL LIKE THE STUFF. But having 1000 pieces on display just wasn't going to work with my lifestyle at the moment and I thought it was an interesting point of discussion on the topic of letting go of "things" we like for elements we love. Like making an effort to better know oneself or honoring a loved by simply hanging a painting. I don't see how that is so insulting.

Eeesh, I even kept the coolest bits. It's apparent I did not shun the culture or the practice. But, if I must apologize for making it seem that way, then I sincerely do.

I don't get where the religious stuff came from myself. :???:

I can understand the way you feel, but I don't know couldn't you have found a different place to put them instead of there they used to be? I mean if you want to get them back now it'll cost you an arm and a leg.
I would have tried to display them somewhere else or put them into storage.

I wish they would invent plastic that doesn't get all dusty, I hate dusting TFs...... 8-}

Oh it all went to a good home, that's a fact. There was an extensive interview process, 500 page exam and a physical ha!

Actually, it's kind of a funny story about who got it, but that's for another time.

You bring up a good point D.M. But I think storing it would have missed the mark of the exercise. The money that came from it went into the "wedding ring" fund. So in a sense, at least loosely symbolically, they did a good deed ;).

Anyway, not to dwell on previous points but again it was an exercise in attachment not extremism. There was no need to get rid of ALL of it for the sake of "cleansing". It was a matter of finding balance. I'm not Ghandi nor do I aspire to be. But it was an interesting exploration of the process none the less.

On a further note I also find it interesting to think, if I were to start again, where would I begin...? Hmmm...

A longer life with no TFs? That's aweful.

As for the Proximus bashing, he didn't say he was better than all of us addicts. He said something about it being his solution, not necessarily ours.

Anyway, I'm not addicted. I could give it up any time I wanted.

I just don't want to...
