Stargate (There is a Reboot coming)
Stargate (There is a Reboot coming)

I'll ponder a bit about what a reboot would mean 'if' it was a TV show....(which it isn't).
Seems a bit to early for a reboot though, If they did it in a clever way like the way Mitchell lived an alternative life in one of the DVD Movies so the new show is an actual Daughter Universe then I won't have any problem at all with it - that is part of the Show's DNA after all.
But the idea of someone else being Samantha Carter & Jack O'Neil makes me feel Antsy. Especially when I look at the current Style of TV of that type like Arrow and how Teen-centric it all is. and how a similar sarcastic Lighthearted (& occasionally Violent) shows like Constantine or Continuum got thrown under a bus.. is a worry that anything they make wouldn't have much more impact that Stargate Universe.
Anyway I won't pre-judge it yet, I will however remain mildly sceptical until I see a bit more of it... It is a shame though as Stargate Atlantis showed that a Spin-off in the same Universe can be made to work just fine if they went that route... But I do understand as they did pretty much defeat every villain they could find to fight in those shows.
And if they make just a Movie instead then - no I wouldn't really care at all. as the TV show pretty much demolished the memory of the Movie to most people anyway.
However there isn't any sign of a new TV show yet and This site says it's a 3 part Movie series planned : http://stargate.wikia.com/wiki/Thread:46237
Well if Independence day 2 falls flat on it's Face I don't expect any Sequel/reboot to Stargate to happen at all. - I did actually read the original Novel sequels to the Movie and they are not horrible - I actually like the Movie Version of Daniel (jack not so much) - and a Stargate with no Sam or T'ealc is just well weird - but they likely wouldn't feature either.
Talk about throwing a franchise under a bus - oh well as I said before Stargate is the sort of thing friendly to the idea of Alternative Universes so I guess one can approach it like that.

The best thing to do is to just view this new film as it's own thing. No more, no less.

The early part is about survival and keeping the G'ould off their back, while finding and securing means of defence... this arc causes problems with internal factions who want to steal stuff rather than negotiate for it.
This interleaves with the G'Ould plots too and gets all played out near the end of the series where the last System Lords and their off shoots get defeated and the insider threat is supposedly concluded.
The other long running part is the idea of the Ancients and how that ties into Atlantis and the God like non-corporial Ancients who pop up from time to time. and that also ties to the Ori
The conclusion of the show was laying a path for Humanity to become The Ancients and indeed the Asgard's eventual successors at keeping peace in the galaxy and maintaining the Stargate network.
So for me it all ties together well. That said the production wanted to make a whole bunch more Straight to video Movies than they did - but wasn't able to figure out a way to make money off it.
Though they have supposedly been trying to sweet talk Netflicks and others into taking such ideas - but perhaps the ship has sailed a bit on that now.
I didn't much like Stargate Universe but it was a slight shame it never got properly finished for those who did - I thought the people in it were deeply unlikeable though across the board so I wasn't exactly rooting for any of them.

So yes around the star of Atlantis can bee seen as a suitable leaving point for a viewer.. but as I said the other plot threads - even ones that got back to season one for the most part get tied up and the conclusion is pretty satisfying for the most part - they even managed to back peddle a bit on Daniel's Wife so her ending wasn't quite so unfortunate... she was one of the few characters who was more likeable in the Movie... it's pretty obvious they got rid of her pretty quickly for "TV reasons".
All I can say is I bought the Stargate Boxed set and so I have actually watched it all the way through from beginning to end more than once - so I can see how it does indeed tie together super well when Binged like that it's a delight. But you can watch just the key plot episodes and cut that down quite a bit and still get the broader idea of everything.
Some of the cutest bits are the most subtle "Moments" though.
Like Jacks Lake and the fish and how there was no fish in the lake until Sam finally agreed to go fishing with him, or him playing Golf through a Stargate for example.
Anyway it's a darn good show and I would always suggest it to someone as one to check out.. and visually it's still pretty Impressive too.
